Sci-fi Tech That's Not Trek: The Viper

I often wonder of such a design would actually fly in our atmosphere. I think the best way would be some sort of jet propulsion,and not propellor. I thiunk if it were prop propelled it would be too unstable. But I don't know.

I also wonder about the kind of fuel they use to gvie them such incredibly long rsnges. If it's purely chemccal then that's some chemical. It may be something else entirely.

I seem to recall that small craft in the Star Wars universe didn't seem to have trouble using ion engines in both environments, but some also used repulsorlifts (antigravity units effectively) for atmospheres. I'm not sure what sort of system they use on either version of BSG.

Well, the RTF ships levitated off of the ground (as did Raptors, if I recall) while taking off, and the RTF ships were clustered together while taking off from New Caprica, which means they weren't taking off with their tylium engines.

I'd imagine the Viper has some sort of anti-gravity system for atmospheric flight, yes.

The ships that were fleeing from the surface of New Caprica were seen to be firing takeoff thrusters, so that explains that tech.

As far as I can tell, from the sounds native to the Vipers, they use a form of jet engine... only it runs on tyllium, not petroleum.

Well jets in the way we use the term would not work in space - as they need to suck in air.

They apparently have "reactors" of some description, use Tyllium fuel and are capable of space flight and atmospheric flight.

I think they, like most of the craft on BSG, run on a serious type of engine design known as the 'Plot Drive'...

And really, to me, that's a good thing.
