Isn't one reason they don't want to call it a prequel because the timeline for the film spans the 23rd and 24th centuries? Also, there's the possibility that some of it could take place concurrently with TOS.
So are you saying if they DO stick to the facts established in TOS, then you would NOT consider this a reimagining? Or are you concerned with the way it looks?
It's hard for me to swallow that this thing:

is the same Enterprise seen in TOS.
So yeah, I am concerned about the way it looks.
It's why I think it's and I want them to just come out and admit it.

Yes, it does.
The look of the ship is just as much canon as the Trek facts are.
The TMP ship was a result of GR stating that the old 1701 would look silly on the big screen. That's why it was redesigned.
I could accept the ship being refit in TMP, but that explanation could only hold water so many times. Certainly not with this movie allegedly taking place before TOS.
*holds head in hands*
The original show contridicted itself week to fucking week. The Enterprise didn't look the same in two continuous shots, for crying out loud.
The models didn't match up.
Explain that one away, Matt. These people are doing everything possible to keep this movie within the spirit of the original show. That's good enough for me.
No wonder the rest of the world laughs at Star Trek fans - they think we treat the show like its the fucking bible and every word like the gospel.
Its a story.
That is different.
Recasting parts is one thing, redesigning the ship is another.
So yeah, I am concerned about the way it looks.
It's why I think it's and I want them to just come out and admit it.
And if a Trek movie came out with the same designs as the 1960's TV show, it would rightly be laughed out of the cinema.

Exactly...not just facts, but the bridge design.
Case in point:

Where's the main view screen? Are they in some sort of revolving bridge?
I suppose those who will reject Abrams' trek because it may look a little inconsistent compared to TOS should also reject TOS itself since its look was often inconsistent, even within the confines of a single episode.
