Grade The Episode

I guess the Stargate must have some sort of effect on the cloaking device because even when they go through a space gate cloaked they come back through decloaked.

You would probably still notice a cloaked vessel exiting the Stargate either in the displacement of the wormhole as it exits of the ripples along its surface. The Wraith would then know that a cloaked puddle jumper is around and probably then send darts to patrol for the jumper.

They always wait until they've existed the Gate then cloak the Jumper (on the other side I mean). And as Hermiod pointed out if they Gate home cloaked it comes out decloaked the other side anyway. The wormhole must not allow the cloak to function.

I suppose it'd have to be something about the invisibility itself and not the function of the device, since when they retune the cloak into a shield (somebody read "The Physics of Star Trek" on staff), it continues to works after they exit the gate.

I mean, if there looked to be even a chance that she could save Rodney on Atlantis, it would have lent a lot more crediblity to her stance. But we knew it was a lost cause; the other characters knew it was lost cause. In that sense, there was no real drama in Keller's opposition to the others. It was just a weak attempt at generating conflict.

Her stance wasnt supposed to be credible, it wasnt supposed to be dramatic, it wasnt supposed to create conflict, it was supposed to be one of her denial and not wanting to let go.
He was a lost cause. Everyone could see that. Except Keller. Even Rodney's sister - who has known and cared for Rodney far longer than Keller ever has! - was on-board with taking Rodney to the Shrine. This is why I couldn't buy where Keller was coming from. Her stance wasn't a natural outgrowth of her character. It was merely a contrivance put in there by the writers.

Furthemore, that Keller used her standing as the Atlantis CMO to try to keep Rodney there when, deep down, she knew the aforementioned was true, makes me seriously doubt her competency as a doctor when her personal feelings get in the way.

In short, I didn't buy her motivations in this episode. At all. And if anything, "The Shrine" merely helped lower my already lukewarm opinion of her.

Yeah, I think people are missing the point of the video logs. Keller was recording them for McKay and then he tells her he loves her in one of them. Nobody else knew about that.

I gave it an Average. I think that's my first ever grade below an excellent.

The only thing that kept it from being below average IMO, was David Hewlitt's performance. He was fantastic.

Pardon me if I repeat anything that someone else has said, it's late, I'm tired, about to go to bed but I just wanted to give my small critique first.

I thought it was stupid and bordering on bad writing that they were going to somewhere where they were pretty sure he would gain some sense of lucidity and, Rodney being Rodney, he would want to try and figure it out, why didn't they have more medical supplies and more things to check the technology? I mean, I thought one of the main points of being out there (Atlantis, Pegasus Galaxy) was to learn new technology. I would think that anything doing what it could even possibly do would be of some interest to them.

I just thought the story was very weak. That being said, as I said earlier in the post, David was amazing so that saved the episode for me. I liked seeing Jeannie again too.

The next episode looks pretty good. I'll be anxiously waiting for that. :bolian:

Average.

The moment it was said that the brain cells were dormant, not destroyed, I knew that there'd be no long-term effect on Meredith. It would have been nicer had it taken a longer time for him to recover, as opposed to being back to his usual self.

I did love the Messiah complex quip, though!

I gave this an "excellent" if only for Hewletts' magnificent portrayal of someone with the equivelant of Alzheimers. it was an accurate and amazing performance. And two eps back-to-back that tug at your heart! IMHO, though, I think the poll has been skewed from "oh noes, the show has been cancelled, so let's be generous with grading it" syndrome...

Above Average...

My only nitpick would be that I don't think losing your memory turns your into a retard. :) The intermediate scenes were great, but the later development was just a wee bit over the top - All that was missing was some drool coming out of his mouth! :D :D

A very good acting job, though - But I didn't buy what they were trying to portray. At least based on how they explained his condition.

And I still despise the McKay-Keller relationship. Ugh.

You don't have a family member with Alzheimer's, do you? They eventually forget how to swallow and die that way.

I'll only say this. After watching Tropic Thunder, I couldn't take this seriously at all.
Maybe it was just really poor timing on SciFi's part. :p

Your first ever grade below excellent?
You seriously need to adjust your grading methods.
Nope. No adjustment needed. Those who know me know that I'm very lenient. Something has to suck so hard that you can't actually hear the sucking sound for me to think it's bad. There are plenty of episodes that people carried on and on about them being so bad and I still thought they were pretty good.

I've said it before but you seem pretty new so I'll say it again, sometimes I think I'm not geeky enough to be a member of these boards.....:lol:

This is the first time I gave a SG-A episode full marks. What a powerful, moving story combined with excellent acting!

I will definitely miss SG-A.

Mark Harmon = Automatic 10? ;)

He's more like a 17 or 18 but you definitely got my point.

Being "geeky" has nothing to do with understanding a grading scale.

But I personally do not want to reward mediocrity. There have been some truly excellent SG:A episodes (although not as many as I would like), and when those occur they deserve extra praise - and not to be lumped together with the usual stuff.
(Quote from the movie "The Incredibles": "... Then when everyone is special... noone will be.")

But hey, if you really think that all Atlantis episodes so far (that you have graded) truly have been 'excellent' - then more power to you. Don't let my opinion bother you. ;)

And my apologies to the rest of you - sorry for going off topic.

It's nothing to do with not understanding a grade scale, I'm just easily entertained and amused. I have a high level of patience and I rarely, if ever, feel the need to pick things apart. As I said, it has to be on a whole other level of suck for me to say something sucks, like say, all of Ben Stiller's movies. :p:p

Anyways, I'm not trying to say it was terrible, I just thought there was a couple of things that didn't make a hell of a lot of sense. It's usually the kinds of things that I would just shrug off but I got a bit annoyed this time. And since I got annoyed instead of mindlessly watching (like I usually do), I felt I couldn't give it above an average. I still LOVE the show, all the characters and am plain sick about it ending, it just wasn't the normal awesomeness that I think it is.

(double-post) &#&%!

Happens once in a while. I've had a triple post before. *sigh*

My only nitpick would be that I don't think losing your memory turns your into a retard. :)

As I said in that other thread, Alzheimers' symptoms come off as someone being "a retard" - and I've lost my grandfather to it, and losing my father. Not flaming you, just showing my offence to such a callous comment.

No offense intended... And as I have already replied to someone else, I have a family history of it as well. Perhaps I should have phrased it as "Mentally handicapped?"
