The music

I'm sure Giacchino's music will be all new, but is there any likelihood that the original series or TMP themes will be worked in somehow? Or will they just flat-out use the TMP theme for the closing score, like they have done in pretty much every film since TNG's day?

My predictions: The original series theme will definitely be used somehow (maybe the fanfare at the beginning of the movie, like many previous Trek movies). TMP theme won't be used. If TMP theme is used it would be rather subtle (maybe in some scenes with the old Spock) and not in the closing credits.

The score will feature a Mariachi Band dressed in pink leather thongs and purple sombreros.

They will adapt a South of the Border rendition of Nearer My God to Thee, featuring kazoos and throat singing.

Don't forget the guacamole!

Maybe they'll do something similar to Casino Royale where the Bond theme isn't used until the very end of the film.

I'm kind of hoping the movie will end on a humorous note and they'll play that little comedy fanfare as the Enterprise swoops majestically away. :p

Personally, I would've liked them to have reused James Horner's music from Wrath of Khan/Search for Spock.

Maybe the final scene can depict the crew on the bridge rolling over the floor with laughter, already forgotten that two people just died horribly.;)

I think JJ is much more intelligent than Berman. He knows many fans were upset when Berman didn't even use "Star Trek" in the title of "Enterprise" during the first year nor used theme music remotely close to any of the series or movies. Given the depth of research done by Orci and Kurtzman before they wrote the screenplay, I would bet my bottom dollar something familiar with the original theme, but with a modern make-over will be heard. Hope I'm right on this!!

You mean the Clarinet of Spock?

Yes, I can see it now . . .the movie ends with the crew together on the bridge, Spock will shake his head and say that everyone's being illogical, and then the Clarinet of Spock will play as everyone laughs at him and the Enterprise flies off into the sunset. (The sun in question, of course, will be avocado in color. And it will be wearing a sombrero).

I'm hoping for the very same thing.

The actor playing Chekov said right at the end of the movie, there's a scene of them all standing together on the bridge, in the traditional uniforms (which we now know ARE pretty much identical to the orginals).

They switch to a shot of the Enterprise moving away, and we hear the opening few notes from the TV series...

We hear Pine's voice saying "Space....The Final Frontier....These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise..."

As we hear "....where no man has gone before" it breaks into the main theme, as the TV series did, and the closing credits begin to run.

They GOTTA do it that way. GOTTA!

A neat treat would be flashing Pine's, Quinto's and Urban's credits in large lettering (TOS lettering, of course) before the other credits run.

I loved this aspect of Casino Royale.

All through the movie we hear little pieces of the intro music interwtined within the score, but we dont hear the proper Bond music until he is the Bond we all know and love.

I like what Gastrof said, where at then end they are all on the bridge grouped around the throne and we hear the voice over and the fanfare because before this happens, its not Star Trek. And then courages music kicks in and we have the credits.

Although, if Pike and crew are seen forst, i guess we can see the theme being used as it it was essentially Pikes Trek that started with the music, but that i guess is just fanwankery.

Id prefer it that way to the traditional opening with the music and titles.

What i would like, and this is pipe dream of course, is the opening scene be silent, only here foley effects and dialogue as the names afre flashing up on the screeen, much like the opening credits of Serenity.

Then when we finally see our guys all together on the bridge is where the original them kicks in.

And no, TMP theme wont be used in any way, it was Goldsmiths score that Gene liked for TNG so it was used, thats why its only heard in TNG, TMP, TFF, First Contact, Insurection and Nemeshit because Goldsmith scored those movies and that was His Trek Theme, same as if Horner scored ST:6, it wouldve had Horners Trek Theme and vise versa.
