^Too scratchy. :p

But maybe I'll pick up a cheapish but nice nightie from a dept. store, as a "surprise" gift that for that weekend.

I bought a sandwich with hot peppers for lunch. I love hot peppers but my stomach is now telling me I may not be eating them for much longer. :(

I had a chili dog with hot peppers yesterday, and the same thing happened. For someone who once ate habanero peppers right from the package, this is depressing news. :(

Getting older sucks, n'est-ce pas?

Oui, mon Ami. C'est difficile.

I bought some new running shoes.

My knees have NOT been happy campers this week. Let me tell you. :(
How hard have you pushed yourself and what surfaces have you been running on? It's entirely possible that your knees ache because you've just started.

I think you're right. I ran Tuesday on a treadmill, and that's when the pain started. Then on the trail Wed morning during class, trying to do Fartleks just about killed me.
Treadmills will definately do that, especially if you push yourself while on it. Treadmills and hard concrete/ pavement are very good at inflicting pain, and unfortunately options are often limited.

So I figured I'd check when I'd bought the shoes, which was back in May, almost 3 months ago. So they definately needed changing.
Actually, length of time owned will have very little bearing on when shoes need to be switched. Have you been keeping track of your milage? I would have to ask my brother what his standard is, but I've heard of people replacing shoes after as little as 300 miles, and as many as 600 miles. And to be honest, I have a hard time imagining shoes needing replacing after 3 months, especially if you had just started running- barring that your running shoes are limited to specifically running, and not just walking around.

As for the surface, I've decided to just run on the trail for a few weeks and cut out the treadmill in case that's the problem.
Great idea. :techman: Easier on the body, and I find trails a great deal more pleasant than roads. Sorry I keep jumping in on all your running threads/ posts. I've been a runner for almost 10 years, and I've a decent amount of problems, so when I think I recognize something, I feel bad ignoring it. :)

Let's see... some muffins, bread, and pastries from the local bakery. Some yoghurt and soup at the grocery store. I didn't buy, but picked a few pounds of blackberries down the road.

And surely you've got some young studmuffin at your beck & call to give you a leg massage these days?

And no, no studmuffin. The search for one continues. :(

I'm sure one will materialise soon enough. :)

Don't forget, all you MA posters - tax free shopping this weekend.

What's this all about? Some kind of annual event?

I renewed my car insurance today. Costs a bloody fortune, but has to be done... cheaper than last year though, which is something!

Nah, but the state was pressured into doing it. Now that gas prices are falling, folks are starting to drive to NH again to buy stuff (no sales tax in NH) We MAY even lose our own state taxes this November (it's on the ballot!)

I picked up a hardback copy of War and Remembrance at the library for 50¢. May not sound like much, but I try to collect the hardback versions of older books I really like (some others I've got include The Winds of War, The Godfather, and All the President's Men), and this copy was in really excellent shape, both the book and the dust jacket.

I also managed to score a copy of the 2-disc version of Casino Royale at B&N for $10.80 — it was part of their 40% off DVD sale, and I had a coupon for an extra 15% off.

I finally made a decision and purchased "Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season Five" on DVD. As a long time Trekkie, I couldn't decide which Series to get, much less which season, and after some long and thoughtful consideration, and as much as I love TOS and DS9, I opted for TNG as a safe and enjoyable middle ground. :D

DVDs arrived in a week! :D

I am on a research trip to London, England right now.

So far, I've spent about £100 on printouts and photocopies.

I bought a fancy new pipe for £45, along with two tins of tobacco, and some smoking paraphernalia.

And BOOKS. Lots of books. I think about a dozen. London has many, many wonderful bookstores. The Waterstones near Piccadilly Circus is five stories tall.

I'm not sure how I'm going to pack them all for my return flight. They must weigh a tonne. :(

Have you been visiting JJ Fox or Davidoff? :D

If you go over the weight limit, consider shipping them home via Royal Mail international mail using their "printed papers" service and by sea rather than air. Might save you a fair bit!

Glad that you're enjoying London!

My own shopping for the day - soap, chrysanthemums & ham. Not to be consumed together....

Davidoff FTW. :techman:

Oddly enough, I was seriously underwhelmed by my visit to the Dunhill store, just down the street. Their pipes all struck me as overpriced and--well--ugly.

But the Davidoff store is a smoker's dream. The star of St. James, IMHO--though a clothes-shopper like yourself would probably disagree.

Thanks. I will consider that. But I may yet be able to bring them all back with me. I travelled VERY lightly this time--one small checked bag and a laptop backpack carry-on. So I may have unwittingly left room for all these books. Wish me luck.

Glad that you're enjoying London!

I'm having a great time. I'll be the guy smoking a pipe and reading in Brunswick Square between 7 p.m. and 8:30.

Don't friggin' remind me!

Mine is due next month.

Am currently planning a trip to Northern CA. Looks like I may get to drive a locomotive.

^ sorry! :D

I hate paying it, I really do...

Mind you, if they're letting you loose on a train, your accident rate can't be too bad!

Dunhill these days seems designed to appeal mainly to the Far East, Russian and Arab markets.

It's not my favourite place, for the reason you cite, but it's a lovely little retreat to the past. Feels like a shop should, if you know what I mean! :)

So I may have unwittingly left room for all these books.

Check out the art collection at the Foundling Museum there, though the more sentimental or social-historically minded might prefer viewing the little items/gifts left by mothers for the children left abandoned there.
