cramps not funny

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
"Immediate postprandial upper abdominal distension".

If you're in the medical field, you know exactly what that means, however erroneous.

First off, McCoy should know "immediate" and "acute" aren't interchangeable in medicine. "Acute" is more accurate in this instance.

"Postprandial" refers to just having eaten but more specifically suggests a drop in blood sugar just after eating.

"Upper abdominal distension";

"upper" - good

"abdominal" - eh, not so much. Abdominal would refer to the muscles. If you're talking about cramps after eating, it would be "upper GI".

"Distension" - good. Refers to bloating or expansion.

McCoy just rambled off a series of "big medical words" to confuse the security guys -who'd have no idea what he was saying- to get past. When Kirk asked him what he said McCoy just gave Kirk the "Cliff Notes" version rather than getting into it with Kirk.

Besides, it is also possible medical terminology changes in the next 300 years too. ;)

See, this is why Trekkies can't have nice things. We just (nit)pick them apart and leave the pieces all over the floor. ;)

cramps not funny

Considering people laughed in the theater, I'd say you're wrong.

And if you want Trek movies to survive, you'll need more laughs from the broad (read: non-uniform-wearing fanboys) audience that TVH drew into the theaters.

There should be a disclaimer: "No actress actually suffered from cramps in the making of this film."

after a meal

and I thought it was funny too. It's just that people in the medical field and those who have been tend to notice things about medical shows and pick them apart.

So really, he was describing the features of indigestion, then wrongly diagnosed "cramps"?

Made me laugh.
