Star Trek Online and Trek Lit

^ There used to be a website that focused on Elite Force and had detailed information about their characters. But that's been a few months ago since I last looked at it. It may not even be there anymore.

I noticed that apparently you can play a Cardassian--if that's as a Starfleet officer, I really hope that's not because the Cardassians joined the Federation...any word as to what the reason is?

You have any idea what site it is? I know of a few sites but not a lot of info on them.

Worf and Nog are Starfleet officers, but their civilizations didn't join the Federation. Not to mention Ro, Sito, and various other Bajorans we saw in Starfleet when Bajor was not a UFP member.

For that matter, I'm sure there are, say, Japanese-Americans in the US military even though Japan isn't a state of the union. Individuals and nations are two different things.

Do alot of people play EF2 online? Because I tried several times when I first got it and I never found more than to or three other people in each server

I don't think that is necessarily the reason. It could be a situation like Worf where the Klingons didn't join the Federation, but there is and can be Klingons serving in the Federation. Similarly look at Titan where there is a Cardassian serving on Titan, as well as a Ferengi. And Ferenginar hasn't joined for sure, and I don't believe as of that timeframe Cardassia has either.

that's because EF2's MP was crap compared to EF1 and concommitantly there were fewer maps or mods made.

and these days all the cool kids are playing stuff like CoD4, Battlefield 2, HL2 and so forth...

This could introduce an interesting conundrum, since it could be very well possible that players could choose either to be a Klingon in Starfleet or a Klingon in the Klingon Defense Force.

That WOULD be interesting. I wonder if the Empire might have split into two?

Again, you're confusing individuals and nations. Having individuals who are members of the Klingon species serving in Starfleet doesn't suggest anything about the state of the political entity known as the Klingon Empire. Our country is full of immigrants from other sovereign nations, so why wouldn't the Federation be?

It could be. Still, in that case I do think Ezri's comments about the state of the Klingon Empire in the last season of DS9 could make a plot setup for some political turmoil later down the line.

I think the Left Hand of Destiny cover this.

The first backstory article has been posted at the STO website. Some references to Death in Winter, Taking Wing, and a bit of the DS9-R but it looks like they're cherrypicking details as they see fit.
