New Cast Photos

Forgive me while I put on my "nerd" hat. :D

Looks like the costumes have the seams down the front that the originals had.

Seems James Cawley was right when he said they were "perfect". Looks like identical designs, but with different materials to me. Also looks like the delta shield logo is part of the fabric!

Ahem.

Well spotted, that man in the nerd hat!

As for the pictures - true, they don't look like the originals. But I wasn't expecting a bunch of perfect lookalikes anyway, so that's alright. Pegg in particular looks like he means business!

I'm still all kinds of positive abut this movie. Can't wait.

:D

I quite like it, really. Not too sure about Chekov though - his face isn't quite the right shape..

I think they're there, it's just the photo is much lower in resolution.
I'm especially missing it on Yelchin's eyes. And I'm not sure if it's just because of the low quality. We'll see ...

The delta reflections in the eyes are there. trekmovie.com has put up the hi res versions now and they are visible, though Chekov's are a bit hard to see still.

who are the two guys at the bottom? Nothing distinctive there. From the comments I gather one of them is Chekov, but which one??

Not so impressed this time around.

In my best Seinfeldian voice: "Who are these people?"

Looks like a bunch of random internet fans dressed themselves up in costumes and aped the last batch of movie posters.

it just seems like they gathered up abuncha schmucks and are trying to dupe us into thinking they're as good as the tos cast

That's not setting a terribly high bar.

Indeed.

And as far as I can tell, no trickery involved here Beyerstein, no one's pretending this isn't what it is - if you're "duped" that's cause you haven't been paying attention to the history or intent of this project. Which isn't to mollify Trekkies, but rather to make a good successful film.

You said that you would rather they had gotten actors who played the roles best, as opposed to just actors who looked like the original actors. So I'm wondering how you know that John Cho, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin delivered sub par performances.
The statement seemed rather clear: Choose good interesting actors who can perform their parts not what they may look like first and foremost. I think there are some crossed wires here.

Sharr

OK, after seeing the Hi-Res pics and reflecting a bit, I'm not quite as worried as I was at first glance.

Especially after seeing these two pics together:

Pegg DOES have a closer resemblance to Doohan than my "Trek-Minds-Eye" remembered.
And Chekov ISN'T as "Pudgy" in the face as I thought.

But the McCoy poster STILL looks more like Jeff Goldblum to me.
(Not that that is necessarily a BAD thing.)

Scotty's hair changed more than anyone else's did -- 4 times at least. I don't think that Uhura had as many hairstyles as Scotty!

But really it doesn't matter -- did anyone try to match Daniel Craig's hair with Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore's hair with Sean Connery's? Of course not.

Wow, I didn't recognize any of them, Except Pegg. And he looks more like that guy Picard & Riker blew up in TNG season 1.

Of course, Doohan's original hairstyle was in a constant state of flux during TOS, so...

The Uniforms look a lot like the DS9 uniforms to me, but with TOS tailoring. Which is Ok, I guess. I'm sure the uniforms (and actors) will look better in the movie than in this mangled poster.

Also looks like the delta shield logo is part of the fabric!
I really like that detail! :D

When I saw new poster at first I was a little confused because I did not recognize them at first, and maybe a little disappointed, but then I realized they shouldn't be.
Urban usually resembles Kelley more than in this poster, so I hope that will be the case in the movie too. Pine and Quinto are great as Kirk and Spock. Saldana is ok. Cho looks handsome, Yelchin looks strange, but he is not so important. I'm not sure what to think about Pegg...
But I think their acting will be much important than their physical resemblance to the original actors.

You can't expect them to look exactly like the original actors.

I think I can see the SHAT reflected in their eyes!

I don't mind the coloring too much. It seemed odd at first, but gold, red, blue, and black are the starfleet colors. Even if black is a bit out of place.

That's the point. Pegg doesn't have enough hair to match! I guess Scotty of later years is going to be fat AND bald.
