New Cast Photos

I was also going to say that Pegg's "Scotty" looks like Tuvok with his non-hair.

A $150 million budget and they couldn't even afford a wig for Pegg?

Also, Chekov looks like Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica.

Also, it looks like they tried to paint over McCoy's uniform, almost looks like he's wearing some type of feathered outfit. What's up with that?

Hmm...I'm not sure if they chose good angles for Urban or Yelchin. I've seen other non-official pictures which make them seem more like McCoy and Chekhov. Sadly, the group of people who believe Pegg was miscast are going to be fully convinced of this with the poster, but Scotty (along with Sulu, and Chekhov and Uhura) are not one of the big three, so I think I'm much more forgiving of how closely they look like the original actors.

I'm not getting the McCoy vibe from Urban... guess I'll have to wait and see him act... and agree that Chekov just looks a little scary.
It's okay, they can off the Yelchin Chekov in this film and bring in Andy Bray as Pavel, "the Better Chekov," for the next one.

I had a hard time recognizing Pegg myself.
As for Urban I think he's got the McCoy "Blast it Spock! " look down good there.

This poster as a reimagining is fucking fantastic! Though Anton looks kind of older though, nothing like how he seems generally. Scotty's look.. hmmm, not so sure about Simon Pegg, gotta see him in action I guess.

The only one that I recognized was Sulu.

Yeah. Compared with the other poster, where it's obvious who's playing who, this one just reinforces the oddball nature of the casting. Tho Yelchin probably won't look quite as hunky in the movie as he does in the poster.

And although I feel odd complaining about Joe Flanigan-ness, that really isn't right for McCoy. :wtf:

I immediately get a Scotty vibe from Pegg.

That's nice. I still get a boy-did-they-blow-it vibe from Pegg. ;)

It took me a second to figure Sulu out, but for the others, going from top right clockwise, I got a Tuvok vibe, a Bashir vibe, and a Tom Cruise vibe. Nice to finally see something coming out though.

Guess I'm kinda-sorta in the 'B-D-T-B-I-camp' also...
Least from these posters anyway.

Pegg looks a hell of a lot more like John Saxon here to me.
And the McCoy poster...well...?... I'm not sure?

I liked the first set of posters, they really conveyed the essence of those original characters.

This set leaves me wondering if perhaps the current Trek Creator's had possibly spent too much time and effort searching for the perfect Kirk and Spock, only to seemingly or even half-heartedly cast the rest as an after-thought.

Oh well, only time will truly tell and I'm going to reserve my full judgment for when I've actually seen the movie.

Another thought or two from a longer look...

The McCoy pic looks a lot like Jeff Goldblum to me!

Was Scotty's hairline receded that far back??
(Or is it just the shadow & lighting of the poster?)

Doesn't the guy playing Chekov seem to have too gaunt a face??
(Again, it could be the shadows & lighting of the poster, but I remember Chekov having a round-ish face.)

Gawd, I think I'm letting my 40 years of Trek-ish-ness cloud my judgement, but I was really hoping that the new actors would at the very least, be similar to what I've had in my Star Trek Minds-Eye all these years.

I've got a feeling that JJ and Crew may have a harder time convincing/winning over old(Trek)timer's like me than They think.

I wanna like it, I really do... but this set of pic's... I'm just not sure... gonna study them some more...

I'd rather they got actors who could act the most like Sulu, Checkov, Scotty, and Bones (not necessarily like the originals, though) than actors based on who looked the part the most.

Do you know where I can find a torrent of the movie? Or do you at least have cam footage of the screening you can put on YouTube?

What other info can you share?

Smartass ;)

That is, unless he actually hooks you up!

It read to me like he was stating an opinion about what he'd like to see in casting for the movie.

I don't know where the other stuff you bring up came from, but I'd recommend leaving the subject of torrents alone while posting here.

I'd seriously shit myself. :p

:wtf:

It's not like I was actually asking him for a torrent to download the movie. I know he couldn't possibly provide one. Of course, the question of how he managed to see the cast's performances remains, however.

That being said, it won't happen again.

They could make it an inside joke - every sequel to this has a different Chekov. :D

I know...underneath that tetchy exterior, McCoy is just a big old drag queen from Atlanta, GA!

I can just confirm that complaining about Pegg's hairline, or Quinto's earlobes for another example, seems like very superficial complaints (both literally and metaphorically). What leads you to believe I know anything else? I never said that I saw their performances - just that it is unfair to judge the actors based on only a poster intended to partially obscure their appearance. They should be judged on their acting. Since we haven't seen their acting, it is illogical to judge them at this stage. Even by his own standards, it is hard to judge them based on this poster, of all things.
