The Alternative Factor

One of the great episodes of all time. I'm losing patience with ST fandom over this. I certainly never expected to go to a ST message board and see this one singled out for criticism.

It was poorly executed with too many loopholes, wooden acting and awful effects. Sorry.

Why? This episode has been trashed longer than this board or any other Trek website has been around.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. TOS has had it's share of bad episodes, silly episodes and cheap episodes, but this boring clunker takes the cellular peptide cake with mint frosting.

This was one episode where a redshirt would have WANTED to go on the landing party and end up dying...but ironically, none do!

Give me the crystals, Captain...or else I'll make this script even STUPIDER!

This episode gets my vote for lame ass phony beard of all time. That was horrible. It looked like hair just glued on randomly.

And...knowing some of the TOS episode budgets...it might very well have been.

Hey -- HEY! I hope you'll be more Polite when the time-traveling aliens from his planet arrive on Earth with their proud, distinctive beards.

So THAT'S what the "beast"..."the murdering monster" was! A giant collection of sentient pubic hairs that tried to sit on Lazarus's face and smother him!
Didn't that happen in an episode of The Tick? Except that was a mustache. And it shoved its tendrils up his nose and started touching his brain when he tried to battle it.

Didn't that same beard (or its twin) show up on Lost in Space...remember the space pirate dude with the robot parrot on his shoulder? :D

Also known as: one of the more adult and serious plots on that show.

The episode does have one redeeming factor... it's the only episode I remember hearing Eddie Paskey speak.

Anybody remember the sequel story done in one of the SNW volumes? I don't remember the name of the story, which SNW volume it was in, or how it did this, but the story freed both Lazaruses (Lazari?) from the dimensional corridor and deposited each of them on their respective universes' versions of Bajor. (Where, I believe, both of them married local girls and had families.)
