Anyone else see this film? (I couldn't find a thread on it.)

Daughter and I have seen it twice. Not the best film ever made, nor the greatest story or singers...BUT it was FUN!!! :techman:

Laugh out loud fun :lol:, crazy "shock" :eek: moments fun and enthusiasm out the wazzoo fun.

Both times a fairly good size crowd, mostly the gals, and so much laughter.

Would be a great movie to dance in the aisles and sing along with!

Anyone else want to fess up? ;)
 
Brosnan's singing is not the best I've heard, but it is actually okay. Yeah, strained...but it works for the character.

If they recorded the songs first I think they did hiom a disservice...let him act them and THEN sing them...he would have been more comfortable.
 
Saw the movie for the second time today with my mate - saw it first with my Mum, would go and see it again if I had the time!

In most film musicals, they lay down the vocal tracks in the studio, and then shoot the scene on the soundstage.

One notable exception to this is Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady. He apparently lacked the ability to give the same performance twice, so he did his songs live on set, while a lapel mic (buried in his necktie) transmitted his performance to an adjacent soundstage where a live orchestra played in sync with his singing to make the master recording.



I haven't seen the film yet, though I'm tempted. We've had the soundtrack in rotation at B&N, and while Brosnan's singing is rough, it isn't nearly as bad as Colin Firth's. :p
 
Yeah, the singing from the guys was pretty bad, and Meryl Streep's belting was painful in some spots, but the movie was just a lot of fun. You can tell the cast was having a blast, and I've always loved Julie Walters and Christine Baranski so they made great sidekick characters. I've been listening to almost nothing but ABBA music since I saw it on Sunday.

I'd still love to see it on stage some day.
 
I've not seen this movie, only the previews.

Musicals make my soul ache so I likely won't ever see this.

But, I do got to say, Meryl Streep still looks pretty good for a woman who is almost 60!
 
I have to admit I'm curious. But being a guy, I'm way too embarassed to go see it.

Probably just wait for the dvd.
 
Yeah, for a 60 year old she plays a mean 40 :lol:

Since her character had a kid at a young age...20 ish and said daughter is 20, the math is a b*i*t stretched,

And Firth really doesn''t sing all that much, I thought he was fine, very mellow.
 
Its a great film, and it dosnt matter how Peirce sings, its the words that count.

If you are any fan of Abba you need to see this, or if you liked Grease, this is probably up your street too.
 
I saw it with my mam, sister, sister-in-law, and 2 nieces. They all loved it, I was underwhelmed. I didn't think it was bad, I just wasn't overly impressed.
 
I thought about seeing this movie. Is it a musical? Some people at work were saying it is. I may wait until it comes to our dollar theatre.

I love Brosnan, but the guy sings like a bear defending his territory.

Aretha Franklin was like this, as well. Next time you watch Blues Brothers, you'll see that her lips aren't even close for parts of Think.

Of course, when Franklin sings, you aren't paying attention to if she syncs up or not, you're just lost in the perfection that is her performance.

In a MUSICal? Again that's a MUSICal, not a LYRICal.

They both count, and delivery can easily kill them both no matter how "good" the source material is. If people don't listen, there's no point of having the song there at all.
