Knight Rider 2008 Series SPOILERS

^ That's a good point too. It's possible that they wanted KITT to be emotionless. Though I hope that they don't go for a Data like storyline.

oddly this looks like TOO much compared to the TV movie mode

Well, I wasn't exactly expecting him to say "I'm your huckleberry, Michael," but for whatever reason, his voice in the movie sounded so mechanical as to imply that his KITT was less advanced than the previous KITT. Hopefully they'll let him expand his range for the series.

Ha ha, if he ever says that I'll bust a gut. :)

A lot of people read it that way (less advanced) and I can definitely see that. I guess I viewed it as this AI is less experienced than our beloved KITT 2000 was, and thus really did not have a lot of emotional context to work from. In the original series, I found KITT's delivery was fairly plain at first, but developed over the course of the first season. I really am curious how much of the (comparatively) flat delivery is a conscious choice on the part of the directors/writers/producers and Kilmer himself.
Die-hard fanboys tend to forget that. Yes, the original KITT AI had to grow and mature.

Actually it was really only the pilot where KITT's voice was really flat and robotic, and heavily filtered. Even by the second episode he was sounding a lot more personable and human than what we've heard from Kilmer.

Sure, but to be fair, we've only seen a "pilot" and snippets of the TV show. According to this AICN report: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37636 there will be a sub-arc about KITT gaining more awareness (which should be interesting if handled correctly).

I'm not crazy about the new front bumper, but everything else is a HUGE improvement, I think. It actually looks like a real, badass "attack mode" now. :techman:

At least we know now why they sold two of the original vehicles.

That actually does give me some little hope that this won't be as bad as that TV movie. And I really would like to see a good "Knight Rider", y'know... it's a fabulous premise, and while I enjoy the original show it is limited by its age and certain other factors. It'd be nice to see it reach its full potential with balls-out car chases and such.

One worry I have is that while the original show's saving grace was the chemistry between its characters that somewhat made up for weak plotting and production value (though, not so much at the time) that this new show will have good production value and no chemistry. The cast certainly wasn't anything special in that TV movie.

^ I will admit something I don't like. When Mike Traceur says "I'm Michael Knight" it had a soap opera like vibe to it. I can't explain it (other than the actor was a soap actor). It was just strange.

I thought the cast was fine; they just didn't have anything interesting to say or DO before. Maybe with better scripts and more defined characters they'll stand out a little more...

Quick thoughts:

- Like the transformation bit. This is the 21st century, and things have to be updated. That, and I thought the morphing bit in the movie was a slight cop out.
- Ditto with the KITT cave. However, they need a mobile command center like the old semi. I know they had the plane in the movie, but you can't have it landing everywhere, and for KITT to keep going out to the cave might not be practical if they are far from FLAG HQ.
- Mike will be Michael Knight. Hmmmm...interesting.
- The snowglobe is OK...I would have preferred a flat panel VM, though.
- The windshield interface looks great. What I'd expect from a new KITT.
- New Attack Mode; big improvement on the old one. And they got only one spoiler, which is a great decision. The second spoiler in Attack KITT 1.0 looked really weird. That, and the new rear tires are very cool.

i would point out, that looking at the other photos on the NBC site, those rims are not solid. the car's wheel-spinning...

If the tires were spinning in that pic, the five bolts near the center would not be so, er, static.

Episode #1-5: "Knight of the Iguana"
Oct. 22, 2008

UPDATED 7/30/08: Title Revealed. Please do not repost without a link to KITTSite.com.
- This episode involves a beach and surfers.
- Michael uses an alias that is a throwback to classic Knight Rider. What name does he use? Here are two hints: He doesn't call himself "Bonnie" or "RC3."

Please let KITT change into a boat ;)

"Look Michael, a canal!"
