Strange new life

We have seen many aliens/cultures on the various STAR TREK series. Warrior races, savage races, smart races, illogical races...many different ideas and concepts (as much as a TV budget could allow)...

What kind of alien life form would you like to have seen TREK try to put on screen. You have to play by TREK's rules meaning; with in budgetary restraints. And something the censors would allow to be shown....

It could be an in your face threat, or some kind of new life form that is mysterious and unique in appearence, and more importantly, interesting concept.

I would like really alien aliens and not the mostly humanoid one-note-alien-culture of the week that has been the scourge of star trek since the beginning.

It is hard not to create humanoids when humans are playing most of the rolls but it would be nice to have more non-humanoid aliens. I like the alien in Enterprise: Vox Sola. I would also like to see more like the ship creature that was in one of the TNG episodes.

Ones you can't see are definitely more scary. That's why Alien worked so well. The action was mostly off camera.

I remember reading that during the filming of Alien even the cast didn't know exactly when and how the alien would appear. That way the fear on their faces was real. Also, the Nostromo set was enclosed. No removable walls, etc. That gave a real claustrophobic feel to the actors. Combine that with not knowing where the alien was and it must have been a hoot to come to work every day on that movie set.

Just take your pick from any of the aliens around here.

Yes..I was at Comic-con last night, again tomorrow...many strange alien life forms in that HALL-H last night!!

See any sombreros?

You know...I did. There was a dude there in a purple sombrero. But with some of our fellow BBS members a bit 'out there' I didn't ask the person why they were wearing it....

Very crowded last night. Tomorrow, Saturday, is going to be torture I dare say. Lot of buzz about BATMAN in crowd and the Watchmen panel later today...

how much do these comic con tickets run?

In my case...free. My best friend's wife is the exectuive producer of the evening news of a local channel...She got me a media pass and so I not only get to go in free, I get to bypass that throng of people trying to get in.

My other friend bought his ticket last year and I think it was 87$ for a three day pass or something like that.

I wanted to go today to see the DC/Mattel panel but I couldn't get off of work. I will be down there in about an hour or so as soon as I go home...ahem...'sick'.

I'll reiterate my long-standing wish that they bring back the Medusans, but now as Fed citizens by the 24th C. Just how do energy beings integrate into a society largely made up of humanoids, not to mention that they can be driven insane/killed by simply looking at them?

To facilitate having the Medusans played by actors per the usual Star Trek style, they could have developed humanoid-looking exoskeletons to "wear." But there would still be the tension surrounding the possibility that their suits will "fail" and expose others to danger through no fault of their own.

Medusans could be amazing engineers and helmsbeings (integrating themselves into ships) and also Section 31 would find them useful as spies.

To get more outlandish, how about tackling the challenge of a recurring, well-realized character who is not played by an actor at all (not even a voice actor)? Imagine a Horta character - how do you pull that off?

You know you bring up an interesting side subject (you should start a thread). What about some of the better more interesting aliens TOS did have that seem to have dropped off of the TREK map...the two you mention, Medusans and Hortas, are great examples. But, then again, I hated that CGI GORN enterprise used, and the Tholian as well. Maybe its best TOS, at least its aliens, are left in the past...safe from any Bermanian ideas...

They seem to be good listeners, could give Troi a run for her money.
