Was that definately Scarecrow at the beginning? Also, wasn't the guy that Dent was torturing Scarecrow? I wasn't positive, especially since he left the first Scarecrow with the mock-Batmen, and while the second one looked very similar, he should have been in jail already (twice!).

Yes, that was Scarecrow. It was even Cillian Murphy when Batman unmasked him. And no, that was Thomas Swift, one of Joker's goons (which Batman says specifically when he finds Dent questioning him).

And at the end of Batman Begins The Scarecrow was missing. He was not taken into custody. Even Gordon mentions that they hadn't found "Crane or half the inmates at Arkham that he freed". So Batman capturing The Scarecrow was actually completing an arc that was established in Batman Begins.

That was Cillian Murphy at the beginning of the film as the Scarecrow. The man Dent was torturing was a different character, though one who shares similar facial features with Murphy. I can't remember that character's name now, though the Batman did say it, and so can't find the actor's name.

EDIT: And, of course, I was too slow. Damn you, Jackson. Damn you! Guess that's what I get for trying to find that actor's name instead of just going ahead and posting.

The guy at the begining WAS Scarecrow - I liked that moment too, the suggestion that (like in the series and comics all of these themed villans are running around out there)- the guy Dent was torturing was not. I thought it may have been too but I guess it wasn't.

I really liked that we saw Scarecrow again, and I also really liked that he was captured, and not killed (as rumored). I wanted more of Scarecrow, but he served his role, and it did offer for a great reintroduction of Batman in the film.

I'm really glad they got Cillain Murphy to return. I mean he basically had a cameo but it was so much to actually see him and not just some stuntman as The Scarecrow (even though there was a stuntman in some frames, I could tell which ones where Murphy and which ones were the stuntman).

Any sound I heard I must have assumed was the gun bending. Definitely didn't spot the hand device in that move.

How many bending gun barrels sounds like a mechanical whirr?

Well given everything else that was happening in the scene, i guess my mind just didn't make the connection - in any case, didn't notice the noise and hence the gun bending was a "" moment for me.

I was also glad to have The Scarecrow back, even if it was just for one sequence. I also wouldn't mind him returning again in the movie, but I know that's doubtful.

In the theatre I was like, "Did he just bend the gun?" and then promptly forgot about it in five seconds!

If we ever see Arkham again, I'd like to see Murphy's Scarecrow. He never really got "villain" status like The Joker.

That would be good. It would be a nice tie-in with your Dr. Hugo Strange idea (The Scarecrow could be aiding him in his work).

I was thinking Hugo Strange would use fear toxin to incapacitate Batman while he is captured in Arkham, which he would get from Crane.

I think it could be interesting if the third film were based, at least for a portion, on Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum: the inmates have seized the facility and the Batman is the only one who can go in and defuse the situation.

Wouldn't be able to use Joker as Morrison did, though. Maybe that'd be a way to bring Eckhart back.

I think one major barrier to Eckhart's return is Nolan's sense fo realism he tries to inject - Two Face was horrifically injured and not receiving medical care - a wound like that would likely already be infected; he'd last days at the most, probably. If two face returned, he'd have had to have at least skin grafts.

Oh I agree, I think he's dead, snuffed it, pushing up daises, and won't return. I think the final scene of the film made that pretty clear.

At the same time Nolan's "realism" has had some limits. Magical Cell-Phone/RADAR device, microwave device that instantly turns water into steam, except for the water that makes up 75% of weight of every living creature on Earth. The rigid when exposed to electricity cape of Batman's, etc. For all his injected realism in this Batman franchise there's also quite a bit of the fantastic.

Apparently not clear enough since there are plenty of people in this thread who are convinced he's alive.

I believe he's dead, but I'd be willing to accept an explanation if Nolan decides he wanted to use the character again.

Quick note...the large man who plays the prisoner who decides to toss out the ferry detinator is played by the guy who played Klaang in the ENT pilot episode
