What Other Sci-Fi Boards Do You Visit ?

This one only. I used to lurk over at Trekweb but the place has become bland over the years.

[...] I don't think hanging around on a dedicated Doctor Who board is the best idea.
Hence my doubt that it would be to your taste.

:)

I'll give Doctor Who fans one bit of credit, at least they're not all clamouring for their favourite show to be cancelled, which is more than I can say for "fans" of most shows. They spent too long waiting for it to come back to TV for that.

Ironically, OG has quite an active non-who section including a comic sub-section. I am quite certain there are members there who don't even watch DW.

What about Digital Spy?

^Been there, done that, worn the T-shirt.

If I could be arsed, I'd start my own board. I've got 337gb of disk space and 6.7tb of bandwidth sitting around unused.

I think this is the only board of its type out there. This really feels more like a sci fi board, than a Star Trek board. More people post and are in the non-Trek stuff than pure Trek stuff, and every topic that you can imagine is talked about. The best thing is that it is regulated and there is very few things that are offensive that ever show up.

I don't think comic books are talked about much because they are not really that popular with enough people to care. At this point in time even people that have read comics in the past no longer care about them because they are so different from what we know. Comics really are a small niche within the sci fi community. When you think about it how many times have you seen people here blow off comics along with animation as just "simple kids stuff" not to be taken seriously.

Scifi-Meshes - though after something happened to the database a couple of years back, I don't have any posts.

I guess WCNews (one of The Wing Commander games sites) might fall into this category.

There may be one or two others, but I don't think they'd fall under Sci-Fi so much:)

Others may not enjoy it, but there isn't enough comics discussion for me here either. Two (Secret Invasion and Final Crisis) massive comic book events are going on right now and they're barely being talked about.

Superman from this board started that forum, it's wee but growing. You should join! I would, but I don't read enough comics to legitimately contribute to it, though.

I don't think it's the comic books as much as the movies that are coming out regarding comic books. I mean in the last several years, it's like every movie that is even in the scifi genre has been comic book based, and the discussions have lead to something like "They finally got the Joker right and Jack Nicholson's Joker is an abomination to all things the comic tried to produce" or something like that. I only state the whole Joker thing as an example, but it seems like a movie has to be related to a comic to the letter and anything less would really suck. I guess not reading the comics, I find the differences in the two interpretations satisfying, in that one may be more accurate than the other, but both are still really good interpretations from the minds of two very good directors. Also, I hope in the future, we get some scifi movies that take us back to the days of Total Recall or the Abyss. I think we're getting that with XFiles 2 (Which I wish got more buzz), Mummy 3, and Terminator Salvation, but they are too few and far between.

Why does that interface look familiar, I wonder.

And I wonder why he started it.

Oh, wait, the answer is no I don't to both questions.

This is the only one I post on, though I occasionally lurk on various boards for shows like Lost or BSG around the net. I like the layout here, I like the lack of shitdiots here, I like that pretty much every topic is open for discussion, I like the environment and tone. No other message boards have the charm of the Trek BBS.

I'm a TrekBBS loyalist, by default rather than loyalty.

I tried TWOP but the mods are little tin hitlers. When I saw someone being warned for spoiler-coding info from a next-week's-preview (just to be polite to others), simply because TWOP doesn't regard previews as spoilers, I knew the inmates were running the asylum. They also warn people for incorrect capitalization and punctuation.

I got two warnings there, for:

1. Discussing Peter's (platonic) relationship with Claire in a thread devoted to Petrellicest.

2. Theorizing how real-world politics might have influenced the backstory for Sgt. Doakes on Dexter.

Man oh man, I might as well just have posted donkey porn. :rommie:

1. Discussing Peter's (platonic) relationship with Claire in a thread devoted to Petrellicest.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

And I almost got another warning for daring to pose the question: which is more sick, Plaire (Peter/Claire) or Petrellicest? Man oh man, did that make them mad!

So basically Petrellicest is okay but Plaire is verboten. We weren't even allowed to discuss it. Some sociologist should examine TWOP in an attempt to figure out just what kind of value system they're running on. I hung around there much longer than I would have simply out of intellectual interest but in the end, the logic eluded me. Someone could seriously do a PhD thesis on the parallel universe that TWOP dwells within.
