Bibleman and superheros with religion?

I was flipping through the channels and I turned it on the church channel. They usually have something crappy on to laugh at and I turned it on just as a show was going off called Bibleman. Aparently Bibleman goes around talking about the Bible to children which must go down as the worst superpower ever. I plan to watch a whole episode this weekend just to see how lame it is and report in but I was wondering if anyone else has heard about this show?

This did make me think of something else. What do you think people would think if the superhero who is protecting their city or the world was also a Christian or Jew or even a Muslim? Do you think Superman would be as loved by the people of Metroplois if he had a cross on his chest instead of a big s?

I think people would be afraid of people who has those powers who also lean towards one religion. I think people proably wouldn't want to know what really makes the the superhero tick. I wonder though if people in this situation would see this superhero through the lens of their views. A Christian might see Superman as Jesus were a aithest will just see him as a alien .

MadTV had a recurring skit featuring a character named Bible Dude (later assisted by Choir Boy), a church janitor who would transform into Bible Dude when contact by a black, cigar-smoking Jesus on a hidden videoscreen. Bible Dude would fly to where a group of kids were considering listening to a Hannah Montana CD or something equally sinful, whereupon he would read some random, esoteric bible quote (another formed the name of the episode), and the children would be see the error of their ways, except for one dissenter, who Bible Dude would zap with lightning until he was a pile of ashes.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

One of their better skits

Dust of the X-Men is a Muslim. Nightcrawler's faith was always a big part of the character. There was a big debate as to whether Superman was a man of faith or not (usually ending with "he's Jewish because the people who made the character are!", leaving out the question of how the f**k he got circumsized...).

The problem with a lot of superheroes is that they operate in universes where Gods literally exist. In DC, the Olympian pantheon (Zeus et al.) exist and empower Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman. There's also a strong suggestion that the Christian God exists, since people are able to interact with dead characters in "Heaven". In Marvel, there's the Olympians (Hercules) and Asgardians (Thor). Makes faith a bit easier when you can watch a God beating down the Wrecking Crew in downtown New York...

Wasn't "Bibleman" played by Willie Aames...best known for "Eight is Not Enough", "Charles in Charge" and "Celebrity Fit Club"?

Kryptonite scalpel.

Superman can't be Jewish. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn't want him eradicted from the face of the earth.

Willie Ames was also in a movie called Paradise(I think that was the title). He and Phoebe Cates(Kates?) are living in an Oasis in the desert, fucking and getting naked. He also did the voice of Hank in the D&D cartoon.

Edit: This is only of relevance because this is a Jayson thread, but a monkey jacks off in the movie Paradise.

I am sure it would depend on the person. I get the feeling that most people that read and write comics have a problem with religion. Marvel had a character named Espirita who got her powers from Heaven, they later changed the story to she got her powers from some dumb alien kid.

DC plays with religion a lot more than Marvel, because of various stories that seemed to be written by someone on drugs that flat out hates religion. I mean they had an angel join the Justice League and Superman fighting angels.

I am sure the indies talk about religion all the time, but comic books by their nature seem to be anti religion kind of like Star Trek.

The DC comics makes a lot of reference to an "Old Testament"/Hebrew style God, especially with regard to some of the mystical characters (The Spectre).

Daredevil's catholicism plays an important part in the character's story.

But to be honest, I would love to see Bibleman face off against Battle Pope.
