First Look at Trek XI in EW

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Well "Princess" stars Anne Hathaway, so watch your reactions or your daughter might think you're a perv.

Kirk's image, BTW, is the only one that approaches being full color - there's a yellow cast to it, yeah, but his skin tone and eye color are in greater contrast to the background. The result is that when the poster is assembled his is the image that stands out.

He's also got a little beard shadow - the kind of thing that heavy TV makeup deliberately eliminated in the original series (and in most of the TOS-based movies) but that's accepted as a more natural look in current film.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

It looks to me that the "Blackness" of Spock's top is over the top and therefore a part of the shirt rather than an over shirt like the original?

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Wow, just.... WOW.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Quinto. My mind had to take a couple of seconds to detach Nimoy from my mental image. He's that good, this is like P.S. being cast as Professor Xavier all over again, just perfect casting.

I will be sooooo heart-broken if this movie turns out to kick ass but still doesn't do well at the box office. From what I've seen so far it looks like Abrams is trying to put a lot of care into the movie, and there's no better place to start from than there.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Impressive.

What has Pine done before this?

"Princess Diaries II."

I'm not shittin'.

Seriously, he also played a whacko really well in "Smokin' Aces." Dude's got chops.

I have a daughter, so I may get away with getting Princess Diaries II from Netflix and watching it with her.

I've got Smokin' Aces on the way. And that Lohan movie, God help me.

Joe, dork

I have two young daughters and I've seen parts of Princess Diaries II before I even knew or cared who Chris Pine was. They were watching it recently, and I paid more attention. I saw a scene where Pine tries to teach the Princess how to use a bow and arrows. Naturally, he finds a way to be able to stand behind her and put his arms around her as he helps her draw back the bow and aim the arrow. She thinks shes getting a shooting lesson, but his goal is obviously not to make her a marksman.
It was like one of the many scenes where Kirk charms a skeptical alien woman into his arms. Same calm, confident, polite but seductive technique. Damned if I couldn't see a young Shatner-as-Kirk doing the same thing as I watched the scene.

We all know Quinto will rock. But Pine as Kirk could be the most pleasant surprise of the movie.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

With Uhura being featured so prominently in these new poster(s), it would lead me to think she has a greater role than just "Hailing Frequencies Open". :)

It would be great if Uhura had a jucier role in this movie. She has always been my favorite of the secondary characters, and even in TOS movies, she wasn't used very well, in my opinion. I am also particularly hoping that the movie verifies her first name as Nyota. It always annoyed me that the others eventually got their first names, but we never learned her ssave for the non-canon sources.

Gotta say, that poster's put my mind at ease a little! Quinto has got the perfect Spock look, and I'm pretty sure he can pull off a convincing act too.

Still not entirely sold on Kirk, but I can see the similarity there, and I'm just baffled by Uhura - it'll be interesting to see how she matches up to what we're expecting.

I won't even start guessing what's going on with Nero - can't ruin all the surprises with still nearly a year to go ;)

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Just a quick note to those commenting about Uhura's role being bigger and that's why she's on the poster...

Over on TrekMovie.com, there were two explanations given.

One.. the colors of each characters poster matches their uniforms. Uhura's would be red. The other thing was so that it didn't look like a "sausage fest" as Anthony put it ;)

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Nero looks good, intense and evil. Spock is pretty good. Uhura okay. But not digging the image of Kirk for some reason.

Actually now seeing the image in the post above, my opinion of Kirk's image has dramatically increased.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Upon re-examining the thread title, what does any of this have to do with INSURRECTION? :D
