Buzz Slams Trek!

First, Buzz doesn't even *mention* Star Trek, so the title of this thread is misleading (and I have to wonder why the OP felt it had anything to do with Trek. Shock value, perhaps?).

Second, there is no Star Trek running in first-run, and hasn't been for a few years.

Looks like the OP and others are simply looking for an excuse to be "offended" when there is none given.
I'll repeat the question: What's the show "where they beam people around"?
\

currently airing? StarGate Atlantis. Currently producing movies on dvd? Futurama.

Star Trek isn't on today. Buzz isn't slamming Star Trek. :vulcan:

Loathe as I am to say this, I have to agree with Therin.

I agree with both of you. Also, Buzz never said any shows.

Star Trek has more of a positive impact on people than a negative impact. It's changed me.

maybe he's talking about starcraft and how the protoss can beam people around... but they are using warp gates... so technically they are warping people around...

did homeboys in space beam people around? i vaguelly recall beaming people around in spaceballs... i'm sure those are the movies and shows that buzz was talking about... not the franchise most commonly associated with the phrase, "beam me up."

in all seriousness, i do think the sci-fi shows have made me wish our space program were doing more. really, the last i heard something about nasa involved some crazy woman involved in a love triangle... maybe nasa should focus more on the a-plot and not the lame romance sub-plot (or at least get a PR firm that can do that for them).

I don't agree with Buzz but I understand the point he's making

I still think scifi inspires many people to follow space and maybe even inspire them to design NASA craft but like other posters are saying scifi is a double edged sword

Sometimes its stories and worlds are untouchable and it has too much techno babble, too many weird aliens, lightsabres, phasers, wrap drives and millenium falcons....its too geeky and too fantasy. I've worked with engineers and I imagine the NASA ones would more be inspired by the Arthur C Clark stuff.
Sometimes I'd prefer a return to the more realistic scifi you see in movies like 2001 or Books like Baxters Voyage.
