I haven't watched Voyager in years

SG-1 never claimed to be awesome scifi, but it is a very fun ride if you get invested in it
Atlantis had a really good story in the first season, even though the characters are lacking. The rest of the seasons have been hit or miss.

I quit watching sometime before 7 of 9 came on board. I've recently started catching up on Spike TV, but they're tricky. I think they're trying to discourage people from recording shows that are available on dvd by making the running times 10 minutes off from what they're scheduled. I've got their number, though. I set the dvr to record for an hour and ten minutes! Sheer genius!

You see, point 2. is why I disagree with you on point 1.

The Doctor's obnoxious, sure, but very entertainingly so. No Star Trek character and few TV characters have reminded me so much of myself - no doubt part of the reason I find the Doc so endearing.

The Doctor's obnoxious, sure, but very entertainingly so. No Star Trek character and few TV characters have reminded me so much of myself - no doubt part of the reason I find the Doc so endearing.

Fair enough. I never said I disliked the Doctor. I like all of Voyager's characters, and I think they are what made the show fun to watch. But I definitely rank the Doctor at the bottom.

Keep in mind that I am excluding Chakotay from this ranking, as he was not a character. He a just a part of the set.

Personally, I think the thing that makes Voyager great for "rewatching" is the thing that dings it's quality in the eyes of others... the lack of "continuity"

You can pop in an ep and enjoy it without worrying about what had happened in the previous episodes

After suffering through years of Stargate and other substandard attempts to mimic Trek, even the worst of VOY and ENT look great by comparison. At the very least, the productions are professional and competent.

I miss Star Trek on TV - any Star Trek.

I hated Kes with long hair and B'Elanna sans turtle head and 7 with her hair down.

Sure I've seen all the Voyager's and I'll watch it again if I am channel surfing and it's on, but that doesn't mean Voyager was not not only a sub-par Star Trek show, but at times a very bad television show in general. A show that threw out any assemblance of continuity because the writers weren't clever enough toavoid the cliches. Unlike previous Trek's which relied on techno-babble to advance the plot, Voyager relied on it time and time again for plot resolution.They should have just had a big button in the middle of the bridge that said "press this and everything willbe ok".

Watching it fresh after a break only pointed out to me even more cliches. I recently watched the first and second season on Spike. I didn't remember how much Kes and her magical conviniently undefined powers were often used as a Deus Ex Machina to get out of any situation. Don't know howto wrap this episode up, let's just have Kes be really, really powerful today.

Make no mistake. This is the show that put the dagger in Trek's heart.

I'd say the mediocre TNG movies didn't help either and people forget how awful Jeri Taylor was as a writer for Voyager's earlier seasons (where the audience decline was most disproportionate). That said Voyager at it's best was comparable to the best of TNG and DS9, but was much more variable in quality and was a clear indication the people behind the franchise were running out of ideas and needed to be replaced (the BBC behind NuWho are dodging that bullet by replacing RTD with Steven Moffat).

SG-1 was unpretentious and formulaic much of the time but it was very excellent at expanding the Stargate universe first introduced in a one off, middle of the road blockbuster from the mid 1990s (I liked Stargate SG-1 much more than the overly pleased with itself Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Stargate didn't get good until they started referencing previous episodes, and previous technology which for the most part was just an excuse to reuse the same guest actors again because of a shared enjoyable experience. Meanwhile Voyager's producers were too cheap to even have third tier speaking characters god forbid a regular or three they didn't steal from TNG.
