New Frontier news

DarkHorizon

Peter David just posted an entry on his blog. It's short, but of high importance to NF fans (emphasis mine):

1) Just turned in the next "New Frontier" novel, "Treason." Pub date is early next year.
2) If you have read and enjoyed "Tigerheart," please go over to Amazon.com and post a review. Thanks.

Thank you for posting this!

“Treason”… An interesting title after the controversy about “Before Dishonor”. I am very curious how PAD will handle this topic in NF.

About “Tigerheart”: So far I am not interested in that book. I heard that this is a new version of Peter Pan but I never liked the idea behind that story. I certainly don`t want to read a book to my daughter telling her that never growing up is such a great thing.

New Frontier has an obvious 'traitor' in the form of Soleta. Not saying that'll necessarily be the topic, but it's the first thing that springs to mind for me with regard to the NF universe. We know how she was exposed, but we've never been told the story of why and how she went to work for the Romulans, and in a relative position of trust, commanding a starship.

Where did we get to with the NF timeline? It wasn't current was it? (of course he could bring it upto date...)

I thought we had got to relative contemporary-ness.

Cold Wars takes place simultaneously with the DS9 Relaunch (2376) and before the three year jump in time - so 'After The Fall' onwards takes place c. 2380.

but we've never been told the story of why and how she went to work for the Romulans, and in a relative position of trust, commanding a starship.

Are you sure? I seem to recall a flashback scene with Soleta being in Romulan custody and being brought before Praetor Hiren, where she swore to give him the same loyalty that she gave the Federation.

You're correct. That happened in After the Fall.

My mistake then. I don't remember that at all. Can't believe that's all there is to it, though.

Oh, this is excellent news. It seems like I'm in the minority around here, but I thought the last 3 NF books (as well as his Mirror Universe entry) were all phenomenal, some of the best of the series, so I'm really excited about this.

Sweet! I thought the last two were pretty good, and I just hope this one is to.

I can't say I'm surprised by the news, but it's cool nonetheless. I wouldn't mind another gutwrenching cliffhanger at the end of this one like we've seen in past books.

are there any NF releated events Before Dishonor?? it would compel me to pick it up.

Calhoun appears in the novel, but it's little more than a cameo. A few lines of flippant dialogue and that's about it. Jellico is there somewhat more extensively (not by much, mind you), though whether you consider him part of 'New Frontier' or merely a character to be shopped around would be your own preference. Beyond that, there's no evident link; though, of course, David may always choose to have the events of BD impact his Treason.
