Friends- against bullying

Scarebaby

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
What are your countries doing to prevent bullying?
Sweden has this organisation called "Friends" and they're all about teaching students themselves to stop bullying.
They make these short commercials, all of which are extremely good and very moving, whenever there's a new one on I always get all misty-eyed. Please watch some of these and tell me what you think, as well as compare them to your countries efforts. Regretfully not all are subtitled, but there's very little dialogue anyway so the context is easy to follow.

They're so awesomely well done.

I hear bulling is rabbit. http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Bulling_is_rabbit#Bulling_is_Rabbit

I'm strongly pro-bullying, myself. Kids need to learn to stand up for themselves, and stuff like school bullying takes place in an environment where the consequences are greatly reduced. Ultimately, the cream rises to the top.

There are some anti-bullying initiatives happening in the USA, particularly with the increased focus on the online variety in the wake of the Megan Meier case. I'm sure the goal is to get every kid thinking he has some inherent right not to get made fun of on the Internet and anyone who does so will face consequences (PROTIP: he doesn't and they won't).

Or maybe these initiatives you dismiss are trying to get kids to think about the consequences to others when they bully. Odds are, it never will vanish. But there has been an escalation in what the bullies pull. If that hard edge can be taken off, then it really will be all just schoolyard stuff. Problem is, every single incident tends to get swept under the rug that way. Bumped in the hall? Handle it yourself. Pushed down and held down and beaten in the hall, your stuff scattered and clothes messed up? EHhhhhh, Doc---it may be time for an intervention. Your cream is rancid.

You MUST be kidding.

They also need to learn that threatening won't get them anywhere. I can't think of any bullys in my schools who got good jobs or went to university. They were so used to taking off others and not putting in any effort themselves that when it became important to do so, they found they didn't know how.

I dunno. I always thought Joey and Chandler were always a little hard and mean towards Ross. Sure, Ross was a doofus but he didn't, exactly, deserve the treatment he got from his so-called best friends. So I wouldn't say they were exactly against bullying per-se.

Firends actually did an episode where those guys in the coffee shop stole Chandlers hat and he complained about being bullied.

I think it was even called TOW the Bullies!

I hate bullies, but I can imagine a world without bullying. What better an excuse to hone your fighting skills by beating the shit out of someone than by standing up to a bully?

The only fights I ever got into in high school were against bullys. Not even real fights. If I saw someone getting bullied, I walked up, grabbed the bully and tossed him into lockers or down the hall.

Bullies stop when you take their legs out from under them.
