How would you kill a vampire in the Star Trek universe?

I came up with this question when I was fourteen. If vampires existed in Star Trek, how would you kill one? Would a phaser set on kill work or would it require some special advanced weaponry straight from Starfleet Tactical?

What do you think?

I had to deal with this on Omricron Beta III a few years ago. A lot of people think you have to practically beam a stake into their heart, but phasers set to kill tend to do the job. Of course, then you have their demonic ghost forms floating around...that's something you really need to deal with from orbit.

I think the prime directive would discourage the murdering of innocent vampires. I mean, seeking out new life is what it's all about. You'd be better of forming an alliance with them. We may even see vampires in Starfleet someday.

Site to site transport from the planets night side to its day side.

Infuse them with Borg nanites. Then they will become easily defeatable by any reasonably expeirienced Starfleet captain.

First of all there is a big IF regarding their existence in Trek universe to begin with.
Since we are dealing with Gene's vision of atheist humans, these fantasy creatures would not exist by default (taking into consideration that you need items related to religion in order to defeat them).

But, if they would have been explained as alien life forms that evolved on another planet, require blood of other species (animal, humanoid or whatever) to survive and maintain their large life spans, not to mention avoid solar radiation (if you want to be consistent with the way they were imagined), then there would be numerous ways to kill them.

Phasers set to vaporize would do the trick.
Transporting their internal organs out of their bodies would do as well ... as would re-materializing them without a head or beaming them directly in a desert-like terrain in front of a sun.
Detonating a photon torpedo on the planets surface ... take your pick.

But I digress, since they are fantasy creatures and mostly rely on religion, they would not exist in Trek universe.
At least Gene would have cringed at the idea.
I know I do.

I wouldn't. Ok it would mean changing a few of the environmental controls in the quarters (block out any sunlight etc) and using up a few replicator rations replicating fresh blood every day.

As I see it the environmental systems and easy availability of non-lethal methods of feeding them on starships would make it much easier for them to exist.

Now, if Werevolves existed in the Trekverse, I replicate a few silver bullets, and a silver gun to use them in.

So... I guess the Salt Vampire was a dream sequence??!?!?!
A) In a Trek Universe there are a variety of life forms humans encounter. What we call vampires are probably alien life forms who exist differently than us. In your fantasy world, we must allow them to exist or we will fall prey to religion.
B) I for one believe in God and have no reason to believe the absurd notion that suddenly all life will deny His existence in the future. The United States of America was founded by those seeking the freedom to practice their faith in peace. In the Trek Universe many colonies were founded to preserve their way of live, whether cultural or religious.
The utopian society of 'the future' would be tolerant of other species, other cultures, and other faiths, in order to facilitate interspecies cooperation. :vulcan:

The E.M.H. or Beverly Crusher (take your pick) would have cured them 3/4 of the way thru the hour and then spend the rest of the episode gloating...

The Bajoran's win the day!

^Like I said, replicate it blood and use the opacity setting on the windows to keep out sunlight, other than that nothing. I'm not going to kill it, I'd need a reason for that.

You think Crusher would have at chance at curing them? She would've spent half the show scanning them with a tricorder, then saying "I've never seen anything like this." And that would be the last we'd hear from her until next week.

They were introduced in Ds9 (and to my knowledge, Gene had virtually nothing with that show and was not really in favor of it).

As for the salt vampire.
It's just a term from the 60-ies but was scientifically explained in the episode and to my knowledge had no religious ties in order to exist.
Had they introduced it in TNG, then it would probably be named differently.

I was also referring to the fact that vampires as they are understood today would probably not be in the Trek universe because they rely too much on human religion/fantasy in order to exist or be killed in the first place.

Being tolerant of other species and their convictions is possible while being an atheist and/or devoid of 'belief' as you people understand it.
