Re: STAR TREK; Runner--update

I am preparing to launch THE RUNNER with its first original episode, but I have a problem. Should I recast Hank Morton? I currently have him played by Gene Hackman, but he might be too old for this role, or maybe not. I am looking for suggetions. Here are a few of my own...

Scott Glen
Kurt Russell
Tom Skerret
Bill Paxton
Kevin Costner
Richard Dean Anderson
Bruce Boxlieter
Tom Berringer

Do you all have any suggestions?

Id vote for Bruce Willis, even though he isn't on your list. Hes an older guy but still managed to kick ass in his recent movies.

I can't believe I didn't think of him..and yes, I am a big Willis fan from, not only Die Hard and Moonlighting, but his other movies as well. The Sixth Sense being a classic, and Unbreakable being underated as it is. Not to mention the Fourth Die Hard movie that I think should get him a fifth one..

Hmmmm..maybe..I like him too. Really liked him in Stargate. First time I think I saw him play anything of substance (didn't care for his escapy from wherever movies)...

Perhaps...good choice.

It's impossible for me to make an intelligent casting suggestion if I know nothing about the characters, and all you've said here is "It's a mystery! It'll span the series! Hilarity will ensue!" Do I have to read your other stories to find out who they are?

No Admiral, not at all...here are the key players..

The Runner is the Voyager doctor.. he has been framed for murder and is on the run...

Hank Morton..he is a carry over from my Austin Grayson story...but in a nutshell? He is from our universe. He is a retired Air Force General who is much like Denny Crane, meaning, he cusses alot and is kind of cranky..and loves to oggle women. At first he wanted to destroy the Enterprise, but evenutally joined her crew...But at the end of that story they all went back home to our 'real' universe, but Hank stayed. So he has vast knowledge of the TREK universe because he watched every episode of the various shows. He will help the Voyager doctor stay ahead of the law and help solve the mystery as well...okay, a bit strange. To date, Hank Morton has been played by "gene hackman", the hackman from Crimson Tide, in my mind...but he might be too old as some have suggested in emails to me...

Stoney Burke, to have been played by Jack Lord, is the no non-sense Starfleet Investigator who will be dogging the other main character, the Voyager Doctor...I think I like Kurt Russell in this role..the kurt russell from Stargate...

And then, finally, Mr. Devon. Played by Denzle Washington. The mysterious man who may be behind it all, or not...time will tell..

I am writing this because some said a 24 kind of story could not be done...but reading some of the other FAN FICS here I thought, well, why not try? Some people are writing some really interesting stuff so why not push the star trek formula in different directions like they do..

So that is Star Trek; Runner. The Voyager doctor, one of my favorite Trek characters, framed for a gruesom murder and on the run...aided by Hank Morton, and even Admiral Janeway when she can....Dogged by Stoney Burke....yeah, I know, sounds like Star Trek Fugitive the more I think about it...but the twist I see at the end will be very.well.twisty...

The Kurt Russell of "Stargate" is good for Stoney. But all the others are too pretty for Hank. How about Geoffrey Rush?

Needs to be multi-layered but able to exude a certain charm when he wants to.

Oh and "twists" be good captain. :techman: Especially with your twisted sense of humour and doom and gloom.

So the holographic doctor becomes The Fugitive? How does that work?

Hackman is fine if you say Morton retired at 65. (Hackman is 78).

Stoney Burke, to have been played by Jack Lord, is the no non-sense Starfleet Investigator who will be dogging the other main character, the Voyager Doctor...I think I like Kurt Russell in this role..the kurt russell from Stargate...

Kurt Russell hasn't been "Kurt Russell from Stargate" in ages, and anyway, a no-nonsense investigator wouldn't act like Jack Oneill in the first place. Go with a Jack Lord type: David James Elliot.

And then, finally, Mr. Devon. Played by Denzle Washington. The mysterious man who may be behind it all, or not...time will tell..

Make him prettier and give him an accent. Chiwetel Ejiofore from "Serenity."

My Deep Frontier stories were inspired by some genius in the FoT forum that said you can't base a compelling series on a ship. It happens. Ignore them and write what you want.

TWO YEARS AFTER THE FINAL EPISODE OF
AUSTIN GRAYSON; N C C – 1 7 0 1

Hank Morton had become quite a celebrity in the two years that had passed since calling the Star Trek universe home. Starfleet had made him an honorary Admiral, and he had spent several months discussing military strategy with the highest ranks of Starfleet, and touring the speaking engagement scene.

His travels had taken him to Vulcan, to Deep Space Nine, and even to the very famous K-7 space station. His collection of Star Trek DVDs had been taken away by Q, which was probably a wise precaution, Hank agreed with now.

Finally, after two years of constant traveling, he had come to Risa for rest and relaxation. He was relaxing on a beach lounge chair, soaking in the sun, when a beautiful woman came up and occupied the one next to him.

He looked over to the woman.

“Isn’t your name Vash?” Hank asked.

She smiled her seductive smile. “Why, yes, I am.” She said with a flirtation voice. “You’re that man who came from that other universe and got mixed up with Q.” She said to him. “I know how getting mixed up with him can be, believe me.” She said as she sipped her martini.

Morton flagged down a waiter and asked him to bring them another round of drinks.

They chatted with each other as the sun went down, and as the sun dipped away, they both headed to Hank’s room.

--
It was the middle of the night. Hank was sleeping in his bed, with Vash by his side. It was then he heard a crashing noise from the next room. Vash wasn’t disturbed by the sound, but Hank was curious as to what it is.

He slipped on his robe and went out into the hallway of the hotel room he was staying in. The hallway lights had been dimmed. The light of from another room was coming out from an opened doorway. Hank was curious as to why the door was opened to the other room, and made his way over to opening. He looked in, and saw a most terrible sight.

A man’s body was on the floor of the entrance, stabbed several times. Another man, who was holding the knife with bloodied hands, was crouched down next to the dead man’s body. The killer looked up at Hank Morton. Hank recognized him immediately. He was the doctor from Voyager.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Hank demanded.

“I swear,” Zimmerman said, “I didn’t do this.” He stood up. “I’ve been framed.”

Morton was always a good judge of character.

“I believe you.” Hank told Zimmerman.

“What should I do?” Zimmerman asked, with the look of shocked horror in his face.

Morton could only think of one answer. “Run!”

OUR STORY CONTINUES

Hank Morton stood in his hotel room, while two men guarded the door to his room in the hallway outside. Vash was busy pouring her self some of the freshly brewed coffee that Morton had just made.

It had been several hours since Morton had discovered the Voyager Doctor standing over the body of a dead man. He had called the authorities and had been told to stay in his room to await an official debriefing of what he saw.

Vash sipped her coffee, and immediately her face took on the look of someone who had just had terrible coffee.

“What the heck is this?” She asked as she looked into her coffee cup.

“It’s coffee,” Morton’s gruff voice said, “compliments of my great grandaddy’s secret formula.” He finished with a smile.

She promptly disposed of her cup of coffee. “Well, if you ask me, it tastes like straight acid.”

Hank smiled. “Why thank you,” he told her, “I appreciate it.”

She gave him a look of slight anger. “It wasn’t meant as a compliment.”

“But it was taken as one anyways.” Hank fired back.

She had changed into her clothes and attempted to leave the room. Upon opening the door she was told to go back inside the room by the to MPs that guarded the door on the outside.

“How long do they intend to keep us in here?” Vash said. “I’m supposed to board a transport at the space port in two hours or so.”

Hank shook his head. “I wouldn’t bet on it.” He told her as he sipped his own cup of coffee.

Vash gave Hank a look of protest. “Oh,” she said to him, “why did you have to go and find that dead body anyway?”

Hank was about to answer when, suddenly, there was a knock on the door. It opened up to reveal a very serious looking man. He wore what appeared to be a civilian ‘suit’ of the day, and it was very prom and proper. He had an icy stare on his face as he came into the room, and over to where Hank stood. The stranger took a badge out of his suit pocket and flashed to Hank and Vash.

“My name is Stoney Burke.” Burke said. “Although we have never officially met, Mr. Morton,” Burke continued, “I did investigate your abduction a couple years back. And as I recall I was never satisfied with Admiral Janeway’s explanation.” He held out his hand to shake Hank’s.

Hank Morton could tell what a person was like with just one look. And Hank’s instincts were telling him that Stoney Burke was a class-1 asshole. And Hank hated assholes.

“I’m not sure what more I can tell you Mr. Burke than what I have already told your men earlier.” Hank offered.

Burked nodded. “Well,” Burke said, “it is possible that a man of your age may need further prodding. I can help with that.”

Hank didn’t like the sign of that at all. “There is nothing wrong with my age,” Hank told Burke, “and if you doubt that, perhaps we can step outside and I can stick my boot up your fucking ass.”

Burke nodded. “I am sorry if I offended you,” Burke said with absolutely no remorse in his voice. “Let me re-phrase my previous words. I would like for you to make an official statement at my headquarters at the Federation complex in mid-city. The statement you gave earlier was not official,” Burke said with a smile, “but when you give your statement in there, it will be.”

Hank prodded Burke some more. “Are you suggesting you found something wrong from with my earlier statement?”

Burke shook his head. “No,” Burke said, “but just incase, I’d like to have you make another statement under oath.”

Hank fired back. “Look, Mr. Burke,” Hank said to him, “all I saw was a dead man in the next room. I did my civilian duty and called the officials. So I would appreciate it if you would stop with the double innuendos.”

“That was your statement,” Burke admitted. “And as of now, it is the only evidence we have to go on. You see, Mr. Morton,” Burke added “there hasn’t been an act of murder in the Federation, in this manner, in quite sometime. In fact, the only time such murders were a product of every day life was back in the past, be it back my Earth, or your own Earth I would guess. So you will excuse me if I seem to take this matter most seriously.”

“Oh, Mr. Burke” a third voice said from the door, “you can take it as seriously as you wish.” Benton Cogley said as he stepped into the room. “Just be sure it’s in writing. Things always go smoother when they’re done in writing, don’t you think?”

Hank recognized the lawyer, Benton Cogley. He was in Janeway’s office on the very day Austin, Frank and the others were there as well, and Q sent them all home. Hank had no love for lawyers, but if he had to have one, why not the descendent of Sam Cogley. No doubt both of them were liberals, ACLU types, Hank thought to him self. But, oh well, he added.

“I offer myself as your legal advisor.” Benton said as he offered his hand to Hank.

“He hasn’t been charged.” Burke added. Then he looked to Hank. “I know we don’t get along Mr. Morton,” Burke said, “but I would advise against seeking this man’s advice on anything, much less legal advice.”

“Can I use that quote when I solicit new clients?” Benton asked Burke.

Burke turned and walked to the door. Before he stepped out into the hallway, he aimed his parting words to Hank.

“Since this investigation is on going,” Burke said, “please do not leave Risa until the interview is done.”

“Mr. Burke,” Benton added to Burke’s back, “how is it one of the Federation’s most famous investigators is already here on Risa when this so called ‘rare’ crime happened?”

Burke didn’t answer, stepped through the door, and was gone.

Vash was happy when the guards let them leave. She was informed by the guards that she too would have to go to mid-city to give an official statement as well. Benton agreed to represent her as well.

Cogley bid farewell and told Hank and Vash he would meet them both at the Federation office in mid-city in two hours.

Hank had a look of distrust on his face.

“What’s wrong?” Vash asked Hank. “We have one of the best lawyers representing us. This will all be over real quick, you’ll see.”

“Maybe,” Hank said to her. “But the same question Benton asked Mr. Burke could be asked about Benton as well. How is it that one of the Federation’s greatest investigators, and, one of the most famous lawyers, would both be on this planet at the same time?” Morton asked.

Vash shook her head. “That is a good question.”

Hank looked at her and thought to him self, ‘and what about you, Vash, one of the most notorious con artists.’ Hank knew something strange was transpiring, and the only way to see it through was to take care that he paid attention to every detail. He headed to his room to shower, and to change, before heading to mid-city for the official statement to Investigator Stoney Burke.

Up to now Hank had told no one of seeing the Voyager Doctor holding a bloodied knife over the dead body. And for some reason, Hank knew it was a secret he should keep; for now.

--
The transport vessel traveled through space, having just left Risa hour earlier. One of the passengers, a bearded man, sat by himself and was reading a holopod novel. Luckily the special programming on the man’s holo-emitter allowed him to change his appearance, by adding beards or hair, or whatever it was programmed for. And for now, the Voyager doctor, (Zimmerman from this point of the story onward), would have to use these seldom used programs to stay ahead, and free, for as long as he could.

He had to find away to contact the Admiral. He reached into his pocket to make sure the chip was still there; it was. The chip had been handed to him by the man whose life was ending in a pool of blood when Zimmerman had activated his program hours earlier. What was on the chip? And why it was worth killing for? Zimmerman had no clue to either answer.

All he could do was stay ahead of whoever killed the man, and the law that now thought Zimmerman did it.

I like the casting. The Admiral is Janeway?

Oh, and why Sam Neil? My said if I didn't cast him she would never read the story..and she is my number one fan!!!...but I think Jerry Doyle fit the bill pretty good...and I can see him throwing out the F word here and there!!!

Doyle? And here I thought he was the "perfect gentleman" and all round hunk! :rommie: RS, you've shattered my illusions!

Now I'll just have to continue quietly drooling over Chuckles in my closet!...where's my photos of Jason Carter and Adrian Paul to comfort me...somewhere here in the closet I've got autographed shots of Garrett Wang and Conner Trinneer but neither of them float my boat...(shuffle, shuffle)...ah yes. Here they are! My autographed shots of Chuckles staring into the camera and cuddling a monkey...they will suit nicely! (wipes off the dried drool and old lipstick marks) Now...must get sigs. of Carter and Paul at some point.

Any suggestions re personalisations? :guffaw:

Oh and Sam Neill? Hmmmm. Tsk, tsk RS. That's a little obvious even for you!

Maybe you should have considered Gordon Ramsey for a role except he never watches his own show or dailies! Apparently they're too painful even for him to endure. (Commercially sanctioned abuse doesn't float my boat either).

Tonight's episode
What's In Your Hand?

Featuring
Federation Investigator Stoney Burke
Admiral Kathryn Janeway

Admiral Janeway sat in her office, behind her desk, and listened patiently to Federation Investigator Stoney Burke. News of the gruesome murder, a week earlier, on the planet Risa, had spread like wild fire through out the Federation. Certain aspects of the murder had yet to be released, such as, who the victim was. And now, Burke’s investigation brought him to Janeway’s office, for some unknown reason only to Burke.

Janeway had only met the investigator one other time before. It was during the incident with the visitors from another reality. Several of them, thanks to a secret Romulan incursion, had been abducted from Earth. Luckily, to keep certain aspects top secret, Janeway was able to sweep that whole incident under the rug. Burke had investigated the Romulan abduction of Starfleet Officers and civilians, but thanks to behind the scenes dealings, it was all settled with his Federation employers. And, from what Janeway could tell now, it had all been swept away not to the satisfaction of Burke.

He stood on the other side of the desk, refusing her offer to sit in the chair beside him.

“No thank you admiral,” Burke said with a smug look on his face, “I prefer to stand.”

“Very well then,” Janeway said to him, “how can I assist your investigation Mr. Burke.”

He paused for a moment, and then, he sat down in the chair. It was his way to convey to Janeway that he would dictate their relationship, and that he would do as he wished when he wanted to.

“Perhaps you are aware of the cold blooded murder up on Risa last week?” He asked her.

“Yes,” she said, “it’s been dominating subspace airwaves for the past few days. Do you have any clues? Any leads?” She asked him.

“I do indeed.” He told her. “First off; can you tell me the circumstances as to why Hank Morton remained in our universe?”

She nodded. “Apparently Q was unable to maintain the opening to the other universe long enough. Someone had to stay back so that the others could go home, so Morton, whose wife had died a few months earlier, volunteered to stay.” (READER: THIS IS OF COURSE NOT ENTIRELY TRUE, BUT IS WHAT Q and MORTON TOLD HER. MORTON REALLY STAYED BECAUSE UNLESS SOMEONE STAYED IN THE TREK UNIVERSE FROM OUR REALITY, STAR TREK REALITY WOULD CEASE TO EXIST)

“And so this man, who we know nothing about, was allowed to stay?” Burke pressed her. “On whose authority was this granted?”

Janeway did not like the tone of the questioning.

“I guess it was on my authority Mr. Burke,” Janeway said with an icy glair, “on behalf of Starfleet Command, acting with the authority the Federation President, who later granted Mr. Morton with citizenship.”

Burke flashed a smug smile. “Do we know anything about his past? Did he bring any records, be they medical or be they…”

“Criminal?” Janeway finished the sentence for him.

“You see Admiral,” Burke told her, “Mr. Morton is a person of interest in my investigation. He gave me a sworn statement back on Risa, but I am not satisfied with certain aspects of his statement.”

Janeway thought for a moment, and then continued. “Mr. Burke, Hank Morton was granted citizenship by the President of Federation due to the fact he was stranded here with no way to get back. If you believe he has broken the law then being a citizen he is subject to any legal course of action. I am still not sure as to why it involves this office.”

“So far what I have told you is general information the public already knows.” He then squinted his eyes, and said, “What I am about to reveal to you now, Admiral Janeway, is Code-7 classified information.” Burke told her with a stone cold face.

Janeway sat a little straighter in her seat. Code-7 was reserved for highly sensitive information. “I understand.” She told him.

He continued. “The man who was murdered on Risa was not a civilian as has been leaked to the public. He was a deep planted Federation agent working on a sensitive issue.”

Janeway arched an eyebrow. “What kind of sensitive issue?”

Burke shook his head. “I’m afraid I can not go into the details.”

“Or course.” Janeway added wryly.

Burke smiled back at her. “But I can tell you his, Admiral; he was there, on Risa, to meet a contact of his. The contact claimed to have information that was very important to the case.”

Janeway cut him off. “Are you trying to tell me that your agent’s contact was Hank Morton? I find that very hard to believe.”

“No,” Burke said, “Mr. Morton was not his contact,” Burke paused, “but Harry Zimmerman was. Doctor Harry Zimmerman.”

Janeway now knew why Burke’s investigation had led him to her office. Many years ago, while the Voyager was making its way back from the Delta Quadrant, the ship’s EMH Doctor had also embarked on his own unique voyage as well, which included, among other twists and turns, a mobile holo-emitter. And upon the ship’s return to the Alpha Quadrant, the holographic Doctor was eventually granted citizenship, thanks in no small part to Benton Cogley's legal representation, and Harry Zimmerman was given all the rights reserved that came with that designation.

Starfleet and Federation scholars were still debating that decision, years later, but Harry Zimmerman, the name the Doctor finally decided on, was a Federation citizen as much as Data had been. Both of whom challenged the very concept of what was considered true life forms; and had won.

Harry Zimmerman eventually resigned his commission, another choice he made that Starfleet was still appealing, and lived on Bajor where he worked as a private physician and had married a Bajoran woman five months earlier. Janeway and many of the Voyager’s crew had attended the wedding.

“Harry Zimmerman was the contact?” Janeway finally came back with. “I don’t believe you.”

Burke nodded his head. “I knew that would be your response as well. But, no matter Admiral, he was the contact and he was on Risa. And, I believe, he is the prime suspect in my investigation.”

Janeway could see where the conversation was heading. “Mr. Burke,” Janeway said, “I assume you are here to ask me if I have heard from Mr. Zimmerman, and if I haven’t, then to inform when I do.”

Burke nodded. He also produced a data-pad. “This is a warrant giving me authority to monitor all communications coming in or out of this office. Not because we don’t trust you,” his tone of voice betrayed otherwise, “but it will give us means to track such a message from him, should it come, that we would not otherwise be able to do.”

She shook her head as she took the pad and read it. She looked up at him. “So what’s stopping him from contacting me privately and outside of this office?”

Burke stood up from the chair he sat in. “Nothing. And then I will have to count on your duties as a Starfleet Officer to inform me if he contacts you outside of his office. But, in any event, we will take measures to insure we are in position to act on such a contact.”

Janeway could read between the lines. She would be monitored by his men, and no doubt, they would monitor the communication hubs that channeled all Federation communications on Earth; including her’s.

“Out of professional courtesy,” Burke said as he stopped at the door that led out of the room, “I will also let you know that I have issued a similar warrant to Mr. Morton.”

“From what I know of Hank Morton,” Janeway said to Burke, “he will not be as predictable as your standard Federation citizen,” she said with a slight smile on her face.

Burke smiled, “I hope not.” He gave her a polite nod of the head and he left her office.

CIVILIAN TRANSPORT DOCKING AT DS9

Hank Morton had been around the block a few times in his life. He knew how to slip a tail when he needed to, and it was clear, he needed to. From the moment he had left Risa he knew he was being followed. He spotted two of his tails, a ‘married’ couple, right away. Even though they were from some alien species he didn’t recognize, and were pretending to be married, Morton could still see through their ruse.

Hank had left Risa, after the meeting with Burke, nearly two weeks earlier. He had been warned by Burke that he was still a person of interest. Hank did not tell Burke that he saw the Voyager Doctor, who now went by the name Harry Zimmerman, crouched over the body of the dead man; and holding a bloodied knife. It was clear the Doctor was being set up, but why? Should it even concern him? Probably not, but Hank had nothing else to do. So why not solve a mystery.

The transport vessel was docked at one of the upper pylons of Deep Space Nine. Hank, holding only one luggage item, followed the crowd of various aliens off of the small vessel and into the receiving area of DS9. The “married” couple kept a safe distance, but always near.

Innocently enough Hank strode down the long hallway and he listened to the sounds of Miles Davis in his ‘old school’ IPOD. He had brought it with him to Frank’s Enterprise months ago. It had been a gift from Nancy, Hank’s deceased wife. She had gone through the trouble of uploading all of Davis’s recordings, and Hank was listening to the punctuating sounds of a sax making Flamenco Sketches in his mind.

Hank could only marvel at what he saw as he walked the long corridor. The sounds, the people, the strange beings, the smells, everything was so alive. And every thing seemed so much bigger than it did on the TV shows. He also wondered if any of the beings he was walking with realized they were the creation of someone’s imagination. Then again, Hank thought, aren’t we all sketches in someway or another?

It was by no accident Hank had come to DS9 this second time. He had actually visited the famed space port a year earlier, as a guest of Starfleet Command, at meeting of Starfleet top strategists. He spoke to them of many of his theories, as taught in his military classes, as passed down to his instructors by the likes of Patton, and other celebrated strategist from before Patton’s time, like Sherman, Daniels, and Kerny. But, as it was in his universe, and his time, the snoots of the Navy, which Morton considered Starfleet Officers to be more like, were not impressed. Of course he didn’t impress them with the up-front assessment that had Starfleet had a little more of the Army mentality, the war against the Dominion could have been over more swiftly. Admiral Jellico was most offended! Good, Hank thought to himself at the time.

On this visit to DS9 Hank had come to see one of the retired Admirals he had connected with during his speaking engagements. His name was S’tov. S’tov had served in Starfleet for several decades, and was a Vulcan male by birth. Now, normally, Hank considered Vuclans, including Spock and Sarek, no more than walking toasters with sticks so far up their asses, collectively their farts would be so sharp as to splinter the universe in to shreds.

S’tov was different. He reminded Hank of Spock’s older, yet more fun brother, Sybok. Of all the Vulcans on Star Trek, Hank really liked Sybok. Here was a Vulcan, a pure Vulcan no less, who reveled in emotions and anger, and no doubt lust Hank supposed. And probably would have been a great drinking buddy. Sarek, before he lost his mind, had to look at his two sons, Spock and Sybok, and wonder how his loins could have produced two of the universes more interesting Vulcans.

Hank met S’tov at Quark’s during that conference a year back. The two shared several glasses of Romulan Ale, the real stuff, and Hank was surprised to hear a Vulcan, a retired military officer, an Admiral no less, throwing out Vulcan cuss words like there was tomorrow. His appearance may have, outwardly, said ME VULCAN ME SERIOUS, but his personality betrayed differently. It was no wonder that where ever Hank went, and the subject of S’tov came up, other Vulcans would change the subject or refuse to even talk about him. Hank liked that. He liked that a lot! The way the Vulcan words for “fuck you, you jackass son of a bitch” were pronounced were, well, unpronounceable. Still, it was cool.

As Hank came out of the greeting terminal on DS9, he was met by Lt. Commander Nog.

“Mr. Morton!,” Nog said as he shook Hank’s hand, “my father can’t wait to meet you!”

“Really?” Hank asked as the two walked together.

“When I told him you were coming he demanded that you eat dinner with us at Sisko’s.” Nog said.

“There’s a Sisko’s here on DS9?” Hank asked.

“Yes, in fact, Jake will be here next week to see how it’s going. His aunt is running this franchise.” Nog said proudly. “I am so glad Jake went into business with his dad’s restaurant. Being the hero he was the Captain’s name is very big and marketable. So here I am, the son of Ferigni, in Starfleet, and on the other hand there is Jake, the son of one of Starfleet’s most legendary captains, running a business, for profit! Oh, by the way, my uncle Quark helped Jake patent the brand name Sisko both there and in the Gamma Quadrant.”

“For a modest sum, I bet.” Hank added with a smile.

“Are you kidding?” Nog said with a laugh. “Also, your friend, S’tov, is already at the restaurant having an appetizer. The fact your transport arrived on time is, well, a miracle. I should warn you,” Nog said with a lowered voice, “he is prone to slip a Vulcan swear word now and then. I had my father reconfigure the Universal Transmitter filters to omit them.”

“Shit no,” Hank said, “nothing wrong with a fucking cuss word here and there.” Then Hank saw a rather fit Klingon woman in the distance. Her ample breast barely contained in her chest plate armor. “Holy shit Nog, check the jugs out on her.”

Nog blushed. “Umm, I can’t, I’m no duty.” Nog told the retired General. “You know the rules.”

“Bullshit.” Hank said as he headed over to the woman with the large breasts.

Nog could only shake his head and smile. He watched as Hank and the Klingon female began to talk and laugh. Nog was envious.

Harry Zimmerman found himself on Edlin Prime. It was a nondescript world that was off the beaten track of normal space routs. Harry knew that he couldn’t just leave the Federation territory. He had to go somewhere, like Edlin, to collect his himself and try to contact Admiral Janeway, but in a way so as not to attract attention upon himself or her.

It was very easily, as a hologram, to change one’s appearance. He now had a full head of hair and a mustache. Was his disguise that apparent? He hoped not. He procured a small room, using credits he had brought with him, and settled in for the night.

He placed the framed holo-image of his wife, Larima, a Barjoan woman, on the small desk inside of his small room. Her long blond hair was glistening in the holo-image. Then he placed the family holo-image of him, Larima, and their two adopted Bajoran children, Methan, who a was a very strong looking seven year old boy for his age, and his younger sister, Kyrene, his four year old sister, next to it.

“I will be home to you all, real soon.” He said to himself, as though he wish they could hear him.

He then reached into the small case he had brought with him and took out the data-chip that Wenton, the man who had been murdered, gave to him before his death. Harry remembered his final words.

FLASH BACK

Harry opened his eyes. He had been sleeping with his wife, in their bed, on Bajor. He felt something in his hand; a knife. There was blood on the knife. Harry realized he was no longer in bed with his wife, he was crouching down on his legs. He looked down to see a near dead man; Wenton. Wenton held his hand out, as if to hand something to Harry. Harry put his hand out and Wenton dropped a data-chip into it.

“What’s going on?” Harry asked, Wenton. “Where am I, why am I holding this knife?”

Wenton could barely talk. His life was fading. “You killed me Doc.” Wenton said. “That’s what they will accuse you of. Take this chip. It will have instructions on it..” his voice trailed off, and Wenton died.

At that moment Harry looked up to see a strange man, in the doorway of what appeared to be a hotel room, looking down at him. Harry didn’t know what to say.

“What is the meaning of this?!” The stranger demanded.

“I swear,” Harry said, “I didn’t do this.” He stood up. “I’ve been framed.”

Harry looked at this strange man, and instantly knew the man was of good character, ir at least, seemed to be.

“I believe you.” The man told Zimmerman.

“What should I do?” Harry asked, with the look of shocked horror in his face.

“Run!” the stranger said.

END FLASH BACK

Harry held the chip in his hand. Why would someone have killed Wenton, and then leave the chip behind? And, more importantly, what was on the chip? It was time to find out.

Stoney Burke sat in the rear cabin of his private transport. Two of his assistants piloted the ship from the bridge in the forward compartment. Burke was in his private office when the COMM unit signaled the reception of a signal.

“Monitor, please.” Burke said.

A thin monitor rose out from a slot in his desk. A message flashed on the screen, and Stoney Burke read it carefully. He sat back in his chair; the case had just taken an unexpected turn.

“Acknowledged,” Burke said finally.

The monitor slid back down into the slit it had come up from.

He then twisted his left wrist so that the bottom of his left arm was facing up. He used his right thumb and manipulated an area of his skin. The skin slid open. Burke was not a human, he was an android. He adjusted a few settings in the control interface of his wrist and then he closed up the small entry port.
