I dunno if I missed something right at the beginning, but...
My intro started with this weird trailer for "Americas Top Mercenary" and then cut to David Hayter playing a fictional "David Hayter" promoting a fictional movie... then it had some guy shooting at ceramic cops before being shot himself by a cop before cutting to the game intro proper.
I honestly didn't know what was going on for those 5 minutes. :p

The second is a recruitment ad for the Raven Sword PMC, I haven't seen the first yet. Aside from the Octopus/PMC clips, the only other one I've seen was advertising some kind of fitness program.

Note that (at least in my Aus/Euro version) you don't get the first mission briefing when starting a game, you have to select that manually from the Mission Briefings menu. I understand why they cut it from the standard intro, it goes for around 20 minutes and is little more than exposition.
Sunny's inability to cook eggs
seems to be a recurring theme.

Actually, yeah, the Act 1 briefing was skipped in the US version as well.
Too bad you can't set a bookmark in these cutscenes like you would on a DVD or something.

Ack. Some of the dialog is clunky... in that Ace Combat 6 kind of way - they keep repeating themselves once in a while.

Oh yeah, just got the attract screen Squid thingie...

Yeah, the longer cutscenes and codecs could be edited down by several minutes simply through eliminating repetitive dialogue. Oh well.

Just took down
Laughing Octopus/Laughing Beauty.
I think the exposition from Drebin about her past would've been more effective if it'd come before the fight. Fairly straightforward fight, but effective. Also, where does
Raiden
get off lecturing Snake about special ops?

Working my way through Act 3 right now and I must say I'm truly impressed. Acts 1 and 2 were nothing special but Act 3 not only makes the events of MGS2 make sense but it also makes the events of MGS3 far more tragic than it seemed. Good job Kojima! :techman:

I liked that bit about "la le li lo lu". It was smart that they didn't explain it and let it explain itself.
Still, god... I'm tired of the long cutscenes. I'm playing on baby mode, so I'm just powering through the game sections and while I find the cutscenes kind of interesting, they are just way too slow. It's just so verbose.
I mean, I've heard that the other games are like this... but jeez, I am honestly surprised at how many there are.

I'm actualy finding MGS4 to be very tame when compared to the others, ESPECIALLY MGS2 lol. MGS3 wasn't too bad with the cut scenes either. And look at the bright side, at least they arent having 45 (plus) minuites of codec conversations. MGS4 is using the codec far less than any of the other games, and it is better for it (again, I'm looking at you MGS2)

God, I don't look forward to playing the earlier games at all. :p
Kojima just needs to make a movie and get it all out of his system. A movie would also force him to edit himself down to 2 hours, give or take.

You can save them. You get a special item if you put them to sleep in their beauty form as opposed to kill them (you get to wear their face as a camo option). It's a pain because they are so good at dodging the tranquilizers. You also get another special item if you ONLY use non-violent means to beat them in their beast form (you get a doll). This is also a pain in the ass for obvious reasons. Collect all the dolls (the 4 beauty dolls and the one FROG doll) and you get a special weapon

Figures. I've been playing this TPS style and didn't even remember that I had tranqs.
Now I'm stuck at the beginning of Act 4 because, well... never got past the first screen in MGS1. :p

Haha well that sucks. I think Act 4 was my favorite simply because it was awesome seeing what a High Def version of MGS1 would look like. Plus it brought back all sorts of memories. As a matter of fact, Act 3 (once you meet Big Mama) onwards was like non-stop nostalgia, bringing back all sorts of fond memories lol

Yeah, I just found it a cute distraction more than anything else.
Still, it's just so awkward not being able to see in front of you.

Oh, do you get a special cutscene after you save the Beauties?

You want to get the 80GB version. Ideally, you want the 60GB version, but I don't think those exist anymore.

Would getting one on eBay be stupid? Anyone know if, like, Gamestop sells warrantied used ones or anything like that?

I dont think you get a different cutscene. Can't be sure though since I havent killed any of them.

Anyways, just beat the game. Best final boss battle ever, though some of the awesome would be lost if you haven't played the other games before. Over all, I think its safe to say its the best Metal Gear game yet, and now I finally have a game that I feel makes the PS3 worth owning

I'm pretty sure the used systems have a decent warranty on it. Plus you can still find some used 60 gigs at Gamestop, which is the ideal version

Just got there. I thought the ending was kind of cute as well... sort of like the start of Act 4. It all ends up being one long interactive cutscene though, still, it was kind of neat. I also know where they got the 90 minute figure for the ending...
Edit: Nevermind. Just saw the post-credits.

At the end, one grave is for Big Boss... but who is the second grave for?
