A feminist review of 'The Incredibles'

Wasn't one of the promo taglines for TI Helen saying : "Leave saving the world to the men? I-Don't Think So!"

I kept looking for it in the film itself. I mean, Helen was the grown-up, Bob the dreamer. I think depicting the woman as the grown-up w/o 'Raymondizing' Bob showed true echoes of feminist thought. It falls to her to explain to the kids the difference between Saturday Morning villains and the killers they might be facing.

Helen is a strong character. Period.

The 'rape' thing requires some elaboration: her definition of rape (as explained in the comments section) is the "radical feminist" definition, which is that since men are dominant, any attempt by men to initiate sex is rape, because women can't consent under those conditions.

I am betting that these examples of feminists - meaning the author of those articles, most of its the respondents and whoever prohibits any dissension - are extremists at best. I wouldn't paint all of them with the same brush, the same way I wouldn't label all fans of a particular TV show identically.

The Incredibles I felt came off more than positively. It showed Helen in a very strong light as has already been alluded. That was in a promo, but it's also on the DVD as well. If anything, Bob comes off critically given the way he's treated.

Meh ... I'm usually interested in hearong what other people have to say on such matters. But when their works come off this prejudiced and they prevent any kind of disagreement ... well, it reminds me more of Languatron. And that just makes me laugh.
