While I'm excited about this trilogy, I hope Hernandez doesn't defeat the Borg, or just wish them away or something with these powers that are mentioned.

It was already announced that NF characters will only be mentioned but not really appear because the author doesn`t want to get into PAD`s way when he continues the series. After this announcement I expect only very little NF and it seems I can only hope that New Frontier will get a good Destiny treatment in the next novel.

If I remember correctly, it was said that the first synopsis was at best inaccurate and at worst wrong. I really hope all these descriptions are more wrong than right. I must admit, if that is supposed to be the huge event that will change the Trek Lit universe, I am disappointed. This sounds like a very generic Borg “cool action” story and I don`t find that kind of thing attractive.

I also don`t like the idea of seeing the first Enterprise character dragged over into “present day” Trek under bizarre sounding circumstances and on top of that turning her into a kind of super woman. We already have nearly the entire TOS crew in “present day”. I wonder, who is the next Enterprise character that will follow?

“The galaxy is threatened as it was never threatened before and our heroes can only beat doom with the help of a human woman with special powers and special insights”. That sounds incredibly cheap.

I keep telling myself, even if these descriptions are more accurate than wrong, I might still be pleasantly surprised. I know these texts are written in order to attract attention and are there for advertisement purposes. The casual buyer looking for a good action read might indeed find them attractive. I don`t.

I thought enterprise was a dismal show, so I'd be unlikely to use an enterprise novels as anything but toilet paper.

    The Pakleds!

Nobody ever said that. What Marco actually said at Shore Leave last year was that Destiny would provide hints about the future direction of the VGR novels. For some reason, everyone who hears that seems to misinterpret it as actually shaping that direction.

I can understand why people are tired of the Borg, but if Destiny really does destroy the Borg once and for all, then I can understand why they have been used so much. Plus, this seems to be one big story arc, so IMO it only makes sense for them to all have to same bad guys.

I think "Before Dishonor" kinda ruined the Borg for me...at least for a while. I'll still buy these books but I can't say as I'm looking forward to them as much as I was.

I'm not taking these blurbs serious (Honestly, when did Amazon transform into a reliable source of information?!?!), until they're being confirmed by someone reliable, like KRAD or David Mack himself. But I presume, that wont happen before Shore Leave, after all they have to spare some highlights for their presentation there ;)

Yeah, people here. It's not necessarily the opinion of the majority of Trek book buyers out there. Or maybe it is. Who really knows?

actually, Baerbell, what Mack said about the first blurb was only:

"Do you really think I'd spend a year writing this if it was 'just another Borg story'?" or words to that effect. he said nothing about its accuracy or lack thereof. i checked yesterday.

Personally, i have enough faith in Mack to expect this will be made of Win and not Fail. I'm expecting something like BOBW not Unimatrix Zero...

I remember that, too, but I remember that there was at least some doubt because I would also think when people write blurbs that they at least make sure everything is spelled properly. Being a German, I noticed immediately the misspelling of "Blitzkrieg".

I hope Destiny will be good. I am certainly not Borged-out. BOBW is one of my favourite Trek stories.

So I'm taking a guess this means the 5th Titan book wont have them exploring the galaxy anymore, then again how exactly would a Luna class match up to a Borg cube?

What is there in the blurbs that leads you to that conclusion?

But why? The Borg were over used in Voyager, yeah, but in the books? So far its just been Resistance and Before Dishonor, unless someone else has done a bunch of books on them that I missed. Sure those books may not be the most popular but its still just two of them.

And why close a door on a group that could still have good stories in them? Should the Borg disappear for awhile after this series? Sure. But gone forever seems a bit too final when one of the established writers or even a new writer could come along with a great idea for a Borg story.

I'm having trouble understanding the perennial meme about the Borg being overused. I mean, there have been countless Klingon and Romulan stories, and fans still clamor for more. People didn't mind having a whole series, DS9, that regularly and frequently focused on Bajorans, Cardassians, Ferengi, Changelings, Vorta, and Jem'Hadar. But the Borg have been featured less overall than any of those, and yet people say they're tired of them.

^ Because, very obviously, there's a difference between more-or-less equal, co-existing species and nations with whom one can have extended relations, and a gestalt entity that's more akin to a cataclysmic natural disaster (that is, when not being poorly written to resemble Snidely Whiplash).

    Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I'm honestly not so sure about those uk postings myself. I just read them over on TrekWeb and well its hard to say for sure if this is legit or what. I guess I will wait til the books out to see for myself.

Reading about the Borg is not the same as reading about the Romulans or Klingons. The Borg are much more limiting than virtually every other alien race. A lot of it is about fighting an enemy who, because of the nature of the Borg, is very difficult to interact with or find an emotional connection to. Romulans and Klingons have a rich culture, you can talk to them, they are not humans but on the other hand, you can understand how they think and feel. You deal with people who can be good or bad or inbetween.

I am simplifying now, of course, but in general the Borg are sentient being trapped and robbed of their individuality. They look like mindless robots you can trash without a second thought. Even the addition of a Queen doesn`t change that. I can see that people appreciate one, maybe two novels dealing with the topic of the Borg attacking but the main question is always, how do they get defeated this time?

I am very unhappy with the mutiny part of the book in question and I also think, the narrow minded attitude of Starfleet`s leaders (including Janeway) tainted the more recent Borg books on top of worrying about repetitions throughout possibly more than a handful of coming books, not to mention what changes they will cause.

I am tired of Admirals who should really know and trust Picard by now throwing obstacles in his path and make life difficult for him. I really hope this stops in the coming Borg stories.

I am a big fan of Best of Both Worlds. Especially because the Borg are such a dark menace, they can be the topic of powerful books. But there is indeed a danger that such stories become too repetitive.

The problem with the borg is frequency - we get so few TNG books, that to have the relaunch go down a "all borg, all of the time" road is a deadend for many of us - we are just not interested in the borg, regardless of how voyager used them. If they were spilit over a couple of years with non-borg stories, I doubt many of us would be bothered.

I'm not sure what the argument is suppose to be here anyway - I don't just a fuck what anyone else wants to read about, I don't want to read about any more borg for the moment, and I'm not going to spend any more cash doing so - the rest of you can do as you please, there are plenty of other distractions out there waiting for my cash. Time and sales will tell how many share that viewpoint.

Yeah I read these on amazon uk about a month back. Can't say that Erica Hernandez having special powers to defeat the Borg is all that interesting.
