A feminist review of 'The Incredibles'

In other words, women are to blame for pollution, war and global warming.
:guffaw:good luck with that

actually I do wish women would make up there minds, either men rule the world, or men only think they are in charge, you cant have it both ways.

Ugh, it saddens me that nutty women like this one continue to drag feminism through the mud. :( Silly me, I'm a woman and I enjoyed the Incredibles for being a fun movie. Whatever could I have been thinking?

I admit that I do not know you, but I'm guessing it's because you're not a crazy person. :)

I hate the "your way is wrong and must be destroyed" nature of this kind of person. What is wrong with a family consisting of a mother, a father and their children ?

I'm sick of seeing fatherhood so completely demonised by these people. Even the aforementioned Joss Whedon does it.

Well, whatever you do, don't tell that author have that blog how you feel. She'll make you hand in your vagina.

so theres been another F4J stunt then?

^There was the other day, apparently.

However, while the F4J people might do some crazy things sometimes, nothing they do is anywhere near as bad as suggesting films should not portray families with a father and a mother.

I actually approve of them, I just think its a shame that fatherhood is only talked about when they do one of there stunts, which I guess is kind of there point.

Financially, it just makes sense.
As liberal as most parents claim to be, I'm sure the most liberal straight parents would at the very least feel uncomfortable with a major cartoon that showed gay/lesbian parents.
Hell, I think that the Rugrats movie, where there was an interracial marriage, was probably the most "edgy" a family cartoon can get without drawing offence.

The various 90s Batman series were pretty 'edgy' at times, even if only Batman Beyond among them (and perhaps The Batman more recently) depicted interracial relationships to much extent. Also, Inspector Maggie Sawyer on the 90s Superman animated series was shown to be in a homosexual relationship.

Man that womans head must be a sad, lonely place. It must be exausting looking for sexism at every turn, blowing everything out of proportion and thinking the entire world is against you. I wouldn't want to live there.

read the firefly review, and thought that woman had some serious problems, she read into it way too much. Granted, she did have a couple of good points, such as Mal's manliness, but the part about Wash and Zoe disturbed me. Apparently this women doesn't believe that a happy interracial couple could exist, centuries in the future.

Ugh, again with that bleuaaarggh -- I'm sorry, I mean blog narrative/mentality!? Excuse me, is there anyone else but me in cyberspace?

Biatch!

Having looked around that site a bit more, I can't believe people actually read this garbage and buy in to it.

None of this site's content, despite its claims to the contrary, is about equality. It is entirely about demonising men.

That's nothing compared to what she says about Joss Whedon's wife:
Fair enough, but I'm keeping my tone. I'm angry about violence against women and I have every right to be.

I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife. From what I've read about him and the interviews I've watched, I'm fairly certain that he rapes his wife and abuses her in various other ways. I honestly can't think of anything worse than living with a man like Joss who thinks of women like the way he portrays in his tv shows. How awful. The comment about the money was meant to be about how I personally could see no benefit from being with a man like Joss OTHER than money. Joss uses and abuses her. Probably rapes her and thinks of women as whores etc, etc. Obviously, Ms Whedon has her own reasons for staying. Fear, patriarchal concepts of love, etc. But I would argue that she gives everything and gets nothing. Money is the only concrete thing that she could possibly gain. But as I said money is worth nothing compared with self-integrity, self-esteem, love (sister/lesbian/gynaffectionate love) etc. So she still loses out. Poor woman.

I support women but not their choices. Choice for women is not the same as self-determiniation. I support women to become self-centering and self-determinining. I do not support their patriarchally constricted 'choices'.

'I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife'
The 'rape' thing requires some elaboration: her definition of rape (as explained in the comments section) is the "radical feminist" definition, which is that since men are dominant, any attempt by men to initiate sex is rape, because women can't consent under those conditions.

I read some feminist review of Firefly once, funniest thing I ever read.

I read a feminist essay about Firefly once too, although I certainly didn't agree with each and every point raised by its author, I found it an interesting read, and the author's habit of continually contrasting the depiction of women in Firefly with that in Buffy intrigued me enough that I finally decided to investigate the latter series. I'm currently up to season six. :techman:
