NFL football..Can't wait!!!

I think my Broncos have a good shot at doing something. Marshall is a god amongst men on the field, Cutler quite frankly shocked me last year, and if Denver can get their running game back together, I can see them taking the west, and putting on a show in the AFC.

Yes they will...

...Stop arguing with me!

...Denver will rock everyone!

I'd agree with you based on the young players, Cutler, Marshall, Selvin Young, but Cutler can't stand Marshall and came out and hammered his maturity a couple of months ago. I think they go 9-7, maybe 10-6 if Cutler cuts down on his mistakes. He's got a bright future.

Can we all agree to hate the Eagles?
Eh, other than on a principle level (just spite towards Philly, really. Seems fair that the rest of us get to hate their teams as much as they do :p ) , there's just not much about the Eagles to even care about right now, much less hate. Imploded after playing the Pats in the Superbowl, and haven't bounced back from that yet.

The J-E-T-S, on the other hand...

The Eagles have the worst behaved fans in the NFL. I'd pay real money to have you or anyone else wear a non-Eagles jersey for an entire game in their nosebleed section.

I don't know about Cutler not being able to stand Marshall... from what I read, it was just a thing where Shannahan asked Cutler to step up and be more of a vocal leader for the team, and Cutler went mildly overboard on it. From what I've read and heard their social and working relationship is fine. If there are issues, hopefully it won't effect them too much.

DENVER (AP) ― Jay Cutler has had it with all the drama and headlines surrounding top target Brandon Marshall.

In his first offseason interview, one sprinkled with unusually blunt criticism, the Denver Broncos quarterback called out his No. 1 receiver and fellow third-year star who suffered a gash on his right forearm while horsing around last month.

"Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now."

With Jeremy Bates taking over the Broncos' passing game, Cutler said Tuesday that it was imperative for Marshall to participate in all the offseason workouts, but he won't be back in action until training camp.

"We're going to be fine. I'm not that overly concerned about it, but it just would be nice coming into our third year, coming off a big year he had last year, for him to get more work done and get more time in and just a little more trust out there," Cutler said. "But it's going to take some time now, maybe training camp, maybe even longer."

Marshall, who emerged as Cutler's primary target during a breakout 2007 season, said he was horsing around with his older brother at a resort in Orlando, Fla., when he fell into a television set, cutting an artery, a vein, a nerve, two tendons and three muscles in his right arm.

Marshall has found himself in the news a lot lately. He faces a DUI charge stemming from an October incident and had a spat with his girlfriend last year that landed him in court. And he was partying with Darrent Williams the night the cornerback was slain in a drive-by shooting on Jan. 1, 2007. Former teammate Javon Walker said Marshall sprayed champagne on some bar patrons, sparking a confrontation that preceded the shooting, which remains unsolved.

"I've talked to him many times. I think a lot of people have. ... He knows he's running out of chances," Cutler said. "This wasn't like his DUI and other stuff he's had. It was an accident, but still, things like that can't happen. He knows it.

"But like I told him, I said, 'Brandon, they're going to quit giving you chances and you're going to have to go somewhere else. And that's going to be a shame."'

Marshall said last week that he realizes he has to grow up and that his freak injury was a wakeup call.

"His DUI was a wakeup call," Cutler retorted. "He's had many wakeup calls. I mean, he's been in (coach Mike) Shanahan's office many times. I've been up there with him. He said the same thing: 'This is a wakeup call. This is the last thing that's going to happen. Blah blah blah.' I mean, until he goes out and proves it, we'll see what happens."

Cutler wants to have trust in his No. 1 receiver.

"I love Brandon to death and he's a great kid at heart. I don't think he goes out there looking for trouble. He's not at bars late. He's not doing those things that other people do. It's just something about him. He's always into something," Cutler said. "Like I told him, 'I haven't lost faith in you. I'll still support you. But ... you're going to have to prove yourself this time."'

Marshall, a fourth-round draft choice in 2006 out of Central Florida, blossomed into the Broncos' best receiver last year, facilitating the recent release of Walker, who was replaced by free agent Keary Colbert.

Cutler isn't losing any sleep over the departure of the oft-injured and often cranky Walker, who signed with the rival Oakland Raiders.

"Javon's a great receiver, but Javon he likes the spotlight and he likes the ball coming to him a lot," Cutler said. "With Brandon and him out there it would be tough. You've got to have a No. 1 guy you want to go to. I think Brandon was going to be my guy. I don't know if Javon was going to be OK with 40, 50, 60 balls."

The free agent departure Cutler is fretting over is the loss of 15-year veteran kicker Jason Elam, who had four game-winning field goals last season and who signed with Atlanta for $3.3 million guaranteed money in 2008, nearly $1 million more than the cost-conscious Broncos were offering.

"I have a little worry about that," Cutler said. "I mean, one of the best clutch kickers in the game. Been here for that long. I was surprised to see we let him go."

Another concern for Cutler is left tackle, where Chris Kuper will get first crack at replacing the retired Matt Lepsis, who protected Cutler's blind side.

"It's a big position for me," Cutler said.

Thanks for the article! I haven't seen that one yet. While it doesn't quite sound as bad as Cutler being unable to stand Marshall, it's definately more serious than I was giving it credit for. Hopefully they get it taken care of, or at least don't let it effect them too severely.

Eagles have the worst reputation as bad fans, I wouldn't say we have the worst. I think there are plenty of places where you'd get a bad reaction for having the opposing team's jersey. Still, if our reputation keeps opposing fans away, so much the better for home field advantage.

I can't wait till Football Season and seeing if the Niners can improve. I really hope Smith isn't the starting QB, but I think he will be.

Eagles went 3-5 at home last year (with the big wins being against Buffalo, Miami, and Detroit), so you may want to work on your home field advantage a bit... :p

I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with the Seahawks - or at least familiar with what, if any, kind of rivalries they might be involved in?

Are they respected as a side (either in terms of the team itself, or how Qwest Field is as a home venue) or are they not noticed much outside of Cascadia?

Also, will any of you who follow the NFL be having a look at the CFL next month, while you wait for the NFL season to start up again?

The Seahawks and the Rams have developed a pretty good rivalry over the years. The Seahawks beat the Rams twice on last play field goals, which kept them out of the playoffs a couple years ago. And the Rams just signed the kicker who did it. Also, The Rams beat the Seahawks in Seattle during a wildcard playoff game recently as well.

The Seahawks have a good home crowd and a very nice stadium. Overall, I'd say the Seahawks are considered underachievers, never quite reaching that top tier in the NFL. They usually have a strong defense, and their QB is tough as nails (if not always very smart).

I've been to about 1/2 the stadiums in the league and they're by far the worst I've seen.

The Seahawks are a strange organization. They do well in years when they're not expected to, and vice-versa.

Best thing they could have done was get rid of Shaun Alexander. He was a beneficiary of the great talent of Steve Hutchinson. Once he was gone, S.A. was toast. Worst thing they did was lose D.J. Hackett to Jacksonville.

Hasselback is an excellent qb though and he should be fine.

Don't watch the CFL at all but have always liked it.

For those of you who REALLY can't wait for the NFL this year, meander into the Fantasy Football thread in the forum, I've revived the TrekBBS league for another season. I'd talk shit about whever won last year, but it's blocked from work, so I'll have to wait until tonight to mock them :p

And I encourage you 49ers, Seahawks, and Eagles fans to draft as many of your favorite players as the system will let you. I'll even make a deal to let you put the entire 49ers roster on your team if you want! ;)

If the system tracks sacks and stuff like that, than yes, at least Patrick Willis would be a great pick up. Other than that, no I'm not drafting an entire team line-up. ;)

It does. You get points for Team Defense, and sacks count towards that, I believe. In the leauge I run, you also carry a couple of individual defensive players (couple of linebackers and safeties/cornerbacks), and you get a few points for individual stats like sacks, interceptions, etc.

And now that New England doesn't get your 1st round pick, I don't have to root against the 49ers, and can go back to just not caring about them :p

lucky bastard. I got in, but best I could find was a pair of preseason tickets, and I couldn't even go that day...
