Destiny trilogy - speculations

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Is anyone worried that the Future Spock sequences of Trek XI would contradict the Destiny triology?

It's unlikely they would cover the same ground.

Anyway, the risk of contradiction by new canon has always existed for Trek novels. If we let our fear of what might happen hold us back, we'd never accomplish anything worthwhile. For that matter, eventual contradiction, whether by real scientific breakthroughs or simply the advance of the calendar, is the inevitable fate of all science fiction. It just comes with the territory.

He's making a joke in reference to LOST, so in this case, he means the orbit will be moved.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

No Picard in Places of Exile either. Clearly the blurb writer was basing that on the stand-in cover with the repeated image of Picard.

Blasted blurb writers!! :borg:

Don't worry D Mack, I like your books and writing so no judgement here. :techman:

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

^They take place only a few months apart, but you have to realize that the DS9 fiction is set four years earlier than the TNG, and in all of that time Dax is moving up the command track.

Maybe Kira is killed in "Fearful Symmetry" and Dax is promoted to Captain as her replacement.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

DS9 without Kira, I don`t really want to imagine that. Nothing is impossible but if that happens, I would seriously consider dropping DS9 Relaunch.

Why? Don't you think the writers are capable of telling good (or excellent) stories without Kira?

I wouldn't want her to die, and she would be the biggest main title characters to be killed, but I think that they might have some interesting stories to tell with Vaughn as the CO of DS9, especially considering his background.

Still though, I agree, keep Kira alive.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Of course writers can tell good stories without Kira. I am sure Peter David can also write good NF stories without Calhoun. Nevertheless, I think Kira is too important for DS9 in order to be killed off and should that happen, I might become annoyed enough to drop the series. It is not that I have a shortage of books to read.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

I don't think Dax will have replaced Kira...if Kira did die, I think Commander Vaughn would take the reins.

Dax has probably got her own ship and crew; maybe the Defiant was destroyed and she's in charge of DS9's newly assigned ship?

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

NO!!!!!!11 if they detroy the Defiant AGAIN!!!!!!!!!111! i'll stop readinig Trek novels and boycott the movie!!!!!!!!111!!1!1

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

I'd like to think that Dax has simply gotten normal promotions due to simply performing her duties well, and not because someone died. Just because someone has been promoted doesn't neccissarily mean to person or people above them in the chain of command has died. Besides, like some said up thread, Vaughn would have to die too for Dax to become CO of DS9, and I doubt they would kill three major characters (I'm including Janeway) so close together.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

They are just talking about newly promoted Captain Dax, who says that it's still Ezri who's the host.
