First Look At Alien From New Trek Film - Serious

Someday I'd like to see a sci fi series that makes an effort to show some truly alien aliens and not just people with prosthetics. But that would put a lot of actors out of work, and it's not the Star Trek style.
Um, hel-LO!

Just sayin'. ;)

The Vorta, the space-amoeba, and even to some extent things like the Tholians were all pretty bold and interesting attempts - but they were the exception, not the norm.

^As I said, a few rare and acceptable situations. To my knowledge, there has never been a "Cantina Scene" in Star Trek. My hope is that there will never be one.

Too late. The bar in ST III, when McCoy goes AWOL looking for a starship to take him back to Genesis, and has to be taken in by Federation Security, is populated by some of ST's wackier aliens and was a purposeful homage to SW's cantina scene. In fact, the storyboards labeled the building "Star Wars Bar" and this survived into the comics adaptation, IIRC.
In light of your evidence, I will concede.
However, It is not like I'm asking for every Star Trek alien to based on the Stargate universe, where every alien is nearly Human and literally descended from Earth. I would, simply, like the majority Star Trek's aliens to remain largely consistent with the Progenitor storyline presented in TNG.
I am correct in assuming, that no one wants to see a Gungan, Toydarian, or other CGI-type alien in Star Trek.
Why worry?
What else will I do for the next eleven months? After all, isn't the motto of this forum, "We have nothing to post, but fear itself". ;)

Jar Jar Trek.

Samuel T. Cogley — The Voice of Reason.

That's the scariest thing I've read all week.

...the technology presented in Trek has always been based (well mostly), even if extremely vaguely and optimistically, on real existing concepts. The same cannot be said about technology in Star Wars, where it is quite often simply "magic"..

If by "based on real concepts" you mean "appropriates the terms from a few real concepts, then tortures, rapes and murders them before selling the resulting bullshit to the public as 'realistic'," then yes, Star Trek tech is based on real science.

In all fairness, Jar Jar Binks was a rubbish, ineffectual, comic relief character as written. The fact he was a CGI just made the situation worse for the old school fans. Of course, the Ewoks in the original trilogy were also a painfully obvious child-friendly element and they don't get anywhere near the same level of hatred. Fortunately, Trek has always been aimed at a higher target age than Lucas' fairytale transplanted into a space setting.

Were not the qualifyers "(well mostly), even if extremely vaguely and optimistically" enough !?

The Ewoks never bothered me.

When "Star Wars" first hit, Lucas insisted that it was a story for kids. That too many people have gotten too wrapped up in expectations that it be more is their lookout.

Everything.

Could you not be so vague and give at least 5 different examples, please? :borg:

Look at the damn pictures yourself.
It doesn't even look like TOS.

Woah you're absolutely right. I didn't notice how incredibly inconsistent these pictures are with TOS depictions of Starfleet Academy. (assuming that's what these sets are supposed to be.)

The fact that they are willing to completely ignore what TOS clearly showed us as Starfleet Academy means that they'll very likely ignore everything else that TOS showed us. You're right. You can definitely infer from these pictures and TOS Starfleet Academy scenes that JJ and co. have changed everything. As a Star Trek fan, I demand appropriate restitution from Paramount.

I once had issues with all of the aliens being so..human. Not anymore though, not since i saw a fan production that introduced a Horta character..
