Your least favorite sequels and why...

Batman & Robin - Not only a very poorly made sequel to the first 3 Batman films, but just plain sucks as a film. PERIOD!

Rocky V - unnecessary sequel to the first 4 Rockys. Thank goodness Sly repaired the damage with Rocky Balboa. :)

Star Wars I, II, III - lacks the aesthetics, the acting, and the feel of what grabbed our attentions as kids as with the Original Trilogy.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - fun to watch, but not as great as the first 3. A let down to most fans (okay...some fans, I don't want to offend too many of the film's fans.) after a 19 year wait.

Sanjuro - I just did not enjoy this as much as Yojimbo. I much preferred Sanjuro as a lone warrior on a journey in the original, rather than training a bunch of buffoons in the sequels.

Robocop 2 & 3 - 2 was just mindlessly disgusting. 3 was just too much of a Power Rangers kid's show!

The Sum of All Fears - Affleck ain't no Ford or Baldwin in the Jack Ryan department.

Staying Alive - can't hold a candle to its legendary predecessor Saturday Night Fever.

Star Trek: Insurrection & Star Trek: Nemesis - both faltered badly after Star Trek: First Contact.

MMPR: The Movie & Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie - both actually sucked (as in rather bland and not even fun to watch) even more so than the TV series that they were based off of. :borg:

I was actually thinking of posting a thread like this, such as unnecessary sequels. Anyway, to add on:

The Karate Kid, Part III - I loved the first one as a kid, the second one, I think was a great sequel, maybe even better than the first. The third was a disgrace, and pretty much made Daniel into an unlikable wimp, especially after what he went through in the second one. It was nothing more than a cash-in on The Karate Kid.

Oceans Twelve - While I like the movie, the ending really ruined it by completely negating the last hour of the movie. Although Thirteen was great.

Death Wish II - V - Were these even necessary? There is only so much you can go with having Charles Bronson play a vigilante, and they did that in the first one.

Caddyshack II - The first one was a classic. The second one was just atrocious.

The Whole 10 Yards- awful
Beverly Hills Cop 3
Starship Troopers 2 -It looked like they had a budget of $1.98

X-Men 3 was by and large the most disappointing sequel because the first two were so great and the second provided a lot of set-up that was horribly squandered.

Agreed.

The first two were brilliant. The third one was crap on a stick.

I also agree with Batman and Robin. Total shit. Unwatchable.

I'll throw in Mission Impossible II. Loved the first one. The second one was stupid noisy junk.

The Sum of All Fears - Affleck ain't no Ford or Baldwin in the Jack Ryan department.

Agreed 100% on this one.

I'll also throw in Major League II and III. I loved the first one and still find it very entertaining. The second one was all right, nothing great, but it had a few laughs here and there and the third one......I don't know why they eve bothered to make it. Total piece of shit. Painful to watch.

Alien 3: Kill off all of the characters we liked from Aliens in the first five minutes. Didn't happen. Like James Cameron says: It was all a hypersleep dream. Resurrection, as well.

Rocky II (or Rocky III, IV, and V for that matter) -- these sequels were unnecessary, and missed the point of the first film. Only Rocky Balboa lived up to the first film, which is what it is.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico -- they used the Leone inspired "once upon a time" label, brought back Banderas and Hayek, brought in Dafoe and Depp, and what do we get? Hayek is dead before the movie begins, Banderas doesn't get enough screen-time, Dafoe in brown-face (how the hell does that get a pass), and Depp... well, okay, he was good, but he doesn't save the movie.

I have to disagree about The Sum of All Fears. I love that movie, and I feel its gets a completely unfair rap. I really do not get why people hate it so much. Its a well made, interesting film. I tend to think of it seperately from the other Jack Ryan films though.

I do agree about the Major League films though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first one, the second one is okay, and the third...blech.

Some to add:

Final Destinations II, III, and coming soon IV. I thought the first was good for a teen slasher film, but the rest were not needed.

The same for Saw II, III, IV...whatever the hell they are at now. The first one sucked, and did not warrant a sequel.

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Both were awful. B&R gets all the stick, but for me BF was just as bad.

Alien 3 - though the version I have on DVD is considerably better than the first version I saw.

Robocop 3 - I do not have a problem with Robocop 2 as some others do. It's nowhere near as good as Robocop, but it's a decent action movie. Robocop 3, however, is fraking awful. You can't take a violent movie franchise, cut out all the violence and stick a PG certificate on it. It's only slightly better than the "That's one mean motherCRUSHER" cut of Robocop they used to show on ITV.

Ocean's Twelve - Very disappointing.

Highlander 2 did not happen. It did not!

Batman forever and Batman &Robin: Series should have stopped after the departures of michael keaton and tim burton.

Indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull: pure rubbish and further proof that Lucas should stop making movies.

More american graffiti: The first one was a classic. The sequal was pure shit and most have forgotten that is was even made.

Highlander 2: Probably the biggest sequal letdown ever

Godfather 3: The first two were classics. The third one was okay, but just couldn't match the first two.

Nightmare on elm steet 2-7: Like most horror movies, the first one was really good and the rest were made to cash in on the popularity of the killer.

Day of the Dead: Not sure if romero considers this movie a sequal, but I've always considered his dead movies to be continuations of Night of the living dead. Dawn of the Dead was good, but Day of the Dead was boring with characters that were incredibly unsypathetic to the point I didn't care if they lived or died. And no zombie killings until the end?

Superman 3: Richard Lester took a franchise that was serious with tongue in cheek and turned it into another campy superhero series.

Shrek 2: I just didn't get into this. More characters doesn't always translate to better.

Halloween 3:Season of the witch: If there is no michael myers then it isn't halloween.

The Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf

The first Howling was a great werewolf movie. The sequel was low-budget junk that trashed the reputation of the first film, as well as being an embarrassing low point in Christopher Lee's career.

Alien 3 was misunderstood and X-Men 3 was certainly disappointing in comparison to X-Men 2, but not as flat as the second half of the first X-Men (the epilogue with Magneto's plastic prison aside).

Superman 3 - for the reasons set out above. And Superman IV, for fairly obvious reasons.

Batman and Robin (though I actually quite like Forever)

The Matrix Revolutions. Didn't mind Reloaded, apart from the meaningless babble at the end, but the 3rd movie was like watching a video game over someone's shoulder. I doubt if any sequels have done as much to tarnish an original as they did - and I include The Phantom Menace in that.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest. Loved the first one, but the second one was a sprawling, self indulgent mess. I didn't even bother with the 3rd one, so disappointed was I.

ST: Nemesis. Need I say more? Also STV:TFF. It's not as bad as made out, but is sandwiched between two very good movies and is basically a bit of a mess.

Godfather 3 - not an out and out bad movie, just not a very good one. And to follow up the near-perfect first two, it needed to be very, very good.
