Axel Foley aka Eddie Murphy in ...BEVERLY HILLS COP 4-summer 2010

I'd much rather see a Lethal Weapon 5 than BEVERLY HILLS COP 4

Nah, Lethal Weapon 4 very clearly ended the series with that wonderful photo montage at the end of the film. I thought it book ended things nicely. Why bother for a fifth film that probably won't be able to get the band back together (Danny Glover is probably done, the same goes for Joe Pesci).

I hate to say it, but this is the sort of thing Ratner would be perfect for. Get a good script , encourage Murphy to riff the way he used to and not the way he does now, and get out of his way. Getting out of the way is what Ratner is really good at.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've wanted to see a Beverly Hills Cop 4 since, well, Beverly Hills Cop 3 turned out to be less than stellar. Instead Murphy went off making dull kids films. Bring back Ahmed, Achmed, Akwell... Axel Foley.

So, I guess 3 wasn't enough of failure for them?

I do agree that Ratner would be ideal for this kind of movie. It's right up his alley, actualy and may be worth seeing.

But only with Rosewood and Taggart are in it, and closer to their original-movie personas. Rosewood was just a caricature in the third movie. (And also believe in the Third Tagart was retired but I'm sure they can either ignore that or have him involved for some reason -maybe make the case-at-hand linked to his past and only he has the "clues" to help solve it. I dunno.

Could be... Interesting. But I'll remain in wait-and-see mode.

I *do* highly doubt we'll ever see a Lethal Weapon 5, not only am I pretty sure Gibson's gone comepletely Jesus on us and won't do such a movie -or atleast a version of the movie worth seeing- the Fourth one was abysmal enough but also serves as a nice end-cap on the franchise.

Now, a Back to the Future 4.... ;)

FFS Hollywood, do you have any idea at all anymore? I get the feeling that Hollywood thinks the entire world is like an "Oprah's Favorite Things" audience.

Aiming for an R-Rated flick makes me very optimistic about the outcome.
True at least the initial reports are not that they are aiming to make it PG-13. Foley more so than McClaine is an R-rated detective cop movie.

Can we leave the 80's IN the 80's? Please?
I'd argue the 80's resurrection has had many more successes than failures(Miami Vice). Even Dukes of Hazzard made money, quality aside.
Now if we could get Back to the Future 4, Ghostbusters 3, Gremlins 3 and Willow 2 I'd be a happy camper.

I suppose asking for Goonies 2 is a stretch at this point since the effort stalled a few years back.

They just need to check it for appearances of "KKK".

Oh and make sure nobody says it was written by Shakespeare.

;)

The Rush Hour movies are very similar in tone and crapness to Beverly Hills Cop, so Ratner seems to be the perfect choice really.

I know this will get some  but its possible that BHC:4 could be PG-13.

The statements from Ratner can be interrpreted in a couple of ways I suppose but since Die Hard, AvP and Terminator:Salvation were or going to be PG-13 this one could make the dip down in rating as well.

Each of the previous three “Cop” movies were rated R, and Murphy’s machine gun mouth, which spewed expletive after expletive in those days, was as much a part of the character as anything else. Surely, his swearing wouldn’t be lost in the translation?
Maybe. When asked what is biggest challenge would be, Ratner seemed to indicate that his new film would be geared towards a very PG audience.
“10-year-old kids, 12-year-old kids don’t really know the old ‘Beverly Hills Cop.’ So it’s an opportunity to make it new for kids,” Ratner said. “The same way it felt for me watching ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was a kid, that’s what I want to do for kids today.”
We can only hope that means, “Shocked and titillated by obscene filth.”
Ratner said “Beverly Hills Cop 4” won’t start filming for at least a year.

As a kid sneaking into R rated movies because they didn't make BHC 1-3 for 10-12 yr old kids in the first place.
Foley is much more loose at the lips than McClaine. I don't see Foley mellowing whereas I could at least buy it with McClaine.

Who buys this, Eddie Murphy retiring? Not at his age. Still his comment on BHC:4 is interesting.
Meet Dave" star Eddie Murphy tells Extra that he's considering retirement. Murphy says "I have close to fifty movies and it's like, why am I in the movies?" he said, adding, "I've done that part now. I'll go back to the stage and do standup."

People start complaining about reviving old franchises whenever they come up, but so far the track record has been pretty damn good. Live Free or Die Hard, Rocky Balboa, Rambo and Kingdom of The Crystal Skull while all not the best entries in their respective series were all pretty damn good. I say if they think they have a good script then go for. The franchise revivals have all been fun so far.

I would go so far as to call RAMBO my favorite movie of 2008. I was damn impressed with it.
