Axel Foley aka Eddie Murphy in ...BEVERLY HILLS COP 4-summer 2010

I think the opening couple of lines sums up how I would've said it as well.

Dark Horizons:
Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard and Indiana Jones have made successful comebacks after long absences, thus the studios have begun dusting off their other 80's action franchises looking for milking more potential revenue streams out of their previously retired warhorses.

According to Variety, Paramount intends to bring back detective Axel Foley in a fourth installment of "Beverly Hills Cop". Eddie Murphy is attached to reprise his role, whilst Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour," "Red Dragon") is negotiating to direct.
...
A writer will be hired shortly to pen the script, whilst Bruckheimer will not be actively involved in this sequel. Shooting begins next year for a Summer 2010 release.

Outside of Uwe Boll and McG I think Brett Ratner is among those directors that many like to bash so I'm sure that'll be a sticking point.

That aside I've been wondering when this would go from rumor mill of '07 into full blown underway project. Looks like that time is now.

Brett Ratner's not in the same league as Uwe Boll. Boll is outright horrible while Ratner's just incredibly mediocre and by the books.

We might get a solid movie if he directs, but it likely won't be anything special or memorable.

Considering the sequels were helmed by Tony Scott and John Landis--and still couldn't hold up to the original, Martin Brest directed film, I don't think Ratner is a death knell to the film. What this one needs is a decent writer. And as many of the principals back from the first movie.

I'm anxiously awaiting Lethal Weapon 5 :D

I never really cared for the Beverly Hills Cop movies. They're just alright.

After seeing the previews for DAVE, I really think it's time for Eddie Murphy to stop doing movies.

No doubt and the idea has been tossed around regarding the Lethal Weapon series. Gibson is still doing some level of damage control himself. He and Tom Cruise, who is of late talking of MI:4 now, both have not recovered from their personal antics the last few years.

I hate to say it, but this is the sort of thing Ratner would be perfect for. Get a good script , encourage Murphy to riff the way he used to and not the way he does now, and get out of his way. Getting out of the way is what Ratner is really good at.

They should pretend number 3 didn't happen. I know I am.

Well, it's not like anything greatly significant happened in the film, besides the death of Axel's loud police chief. I enjoyed it enough that I don't think it should be ignored. Just bring back more of the cast from the first and second film and they'll be set.

So is Eddie Murphy also going to play Judge Reinhold's, John Ashton's, and Ronny Cox's characters too?

Nah, he's going to play Axel Foley's overweight sister, a geeky lab tech, and a little kid who annoys Axel from time to time.

It's only a matter of time before we get a movie with Axel Foley, Indiana Jones, Rocky Balboa, Martin Riggs, John Rambo and John McClane... Legion of American Heroes.

I can't wait for verbal assults between Rocky & Rambo. Get your dictionary ready!

I guess I'm not surprised. After seeing a geriatric Indiana Jones flailing around with his bullwhip, an elderly Rambo wandering confused through the jungles and a doddering old John McCain running for president, we might as well bring back Axel Foley.
