Voyager Uniforms

I liked Sloan's Starfleet Uniform.

Black leather.

Deanna would have looked great in something like that. ;)

Technically, Guy, Sloane was a member of Section 31, not Starfleet. Don't think they ever said Section 31 was part of Starfleet Intelligence. But if I'm wrong, someone here will correct me! -- RR

I think it was established that the TNG uni was the Class A... And the DS9 unis were the Class B

For Sisko, being on Earth, no doubt the class A's were required. I'd imagine that it is at the discretion of the CO.

As for Troi in black leather, I would have no problem with that

They were part of the Federation, not Starfleet

Isn't that like saying the IRA were part of Ireland?
or the KKK were part of the United States

There was no official relationship, tho the UFP didn't mind them doing the dirty work for them so maybe there was ...

SLOAN
We don't submit reports or ask for
approval for specific operations,
if that's what you mean. We're an
autonomous department.

BASHIR
Authorized by whom?

Sloan smiles, maintaining control of the situation.

SLOAN
Section Thirty-one was part of the
original Starfleet charter.

BASHIR
That was two hundred years ago.
Are you telling me you've been
operating on your own ever since?
Without specific orders?
Accountable to nobody, but yourselves?

And there I was doubting myself. Section 31 is Starfleet, but that leather thingy might have been from Sloans civilian wardrobe, or a joke on Bashir's instance... O, and that's even if Section 31 exists.

I stand corrected. And it was foolish of me given that we saw Sec 31 in Enterprise.
And given that the S31 in Ent also wore leather, I'd imagine it's their uniform... or maybe they just keep shopping at the same store!

There was that terrible novel where Janeway finds out four years after the fact that there was a section 31 agent on her ship who died in the first few months of their voyage home... But do we think anyone on Voyager had one of those leather Section 31 outfits hidden in a false wall of their closet?

Well that makes perfect sense since Section 31 must have known from the Romulan's that Voyager was going to take a wrong turn in 2370. Who better to deal with such a roller coaster ride than someones who is prepared for it?

How could the Voyager crew have even known about the new uniforms? Voyager was pulled into the DQ before they had been introduced, so until their first communication with Starfleet HQ they wouldn't have had any idea about the new uniforms.

And I doubt that possible uniform changes were on top of their list when they had the rare and limited chance to exchange data with Starfleet. I'm sure there were things more important to talk about ... like the Dominion War?

I guess you missed Message in a Bottle:

No, I didn't miss it!

I was just under the impression that the Doctor had problems other than asking the other EMH for the specifics of his new uniform.

Aside from the fact that they had to fight the Romulans, there was lots of far more important information to gather than Starfleets latest fashion design.

^ But you specifically asked how they could have known about the uniforms. And that's how they could know. Sorry that I answered your question.

Related question: How long was the EMH in the AQ? Was he there long enough to fully brief Starfleet on Voyager's status? If so, Starfleet could have told him about the uniform change and they could have given instructions for Janeway to not make the upgrades, because of the former Maquis crewmembers.
It has been a long time since I last watched that episode, but that could be a solution.

There was a full debriefing. Hours at least. The only time limit involved was that the ship was running out of range of the communication network. That and the Hirogen might get pissy.

The EMH II got a PENIS from the Doctor. If their was enough time to give genitals to the EMH II then there was enough time to find out about all the little crap which makes life worth living.

The "replicating the uniforms would take too much energy" excuse is total crap. You know what takes more energy than that?

Spending DAYS in the holodeck pretending you're in Fair Haven. Sitting still while watching a race. Building ANOTHER Delta Flyer. Replicating Lunch.

You don't believe that the energy was incompatible? The excuse was used in one of the early episodes but was constantly contradicted. Remember alternate Kathy's talk about how much replicator rationing that watch was worth.

I suspect that Starfleet never sent the Voyager crew specifications for the new uniform, so they couldn't replicate them properly.
