Pet Peeves

ninetofive

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Let's face it, even though we love the show, there are some things that get under our skin. This is the place to whine about it. Maybe you hate it when Kira beats up Klingon soldiers, or when Starfleet personnel don't tap their commbadges when they should. Personally, I hate when the crew can miraculously read alien text (usually displayed on some kind of terminal). Let me guess...Starfleet officers have some kind of micro universal translator implanted in their retinas?

(P.S. If a certain character bothers you in general, please post in the "Most Annoying Characer" thread.)

Information on consols read by non human officers being in English

Aliens that look like humans...and even before the episode with Galen nobody even sayd "hey they look just like us"

When they talk without pushing a button "picard to bridge", they hear him instantly and instantly reply....

I gotta go with Kira beating people up. There's one scene where she's like 9 months pregnant and still manages to beat up 3 dudes twice her size with ease.

Also, the scene in Past Tense where Bashir and Dax have to find the "dim" to get Jadzia's combadge back. What the hell was the point of that? Why have the guy take the combadge at all???

Are you sure? I don't recall such a scene. I could be wrong though.

Because he thought it was of worth?

Bearing in mind that I'm still mid-way through the third season, it irritates me that almost every Klingon is potrayed as a violent drunkard, rambling on pointlessly about honour and being a warrior etc. Very one dimesional, and most of the reason why I don't find Klingon episodes entertaining, apart from... The House of Quark.. which says it all.

TNG actually introduced this protrayal of Klingons with their stupid honor schtick. Try to imagine the Cardassians as the real continuation of the original Klingons. Works for me.

So true, I could go on and on about the Klingons and the h-word. *shudders*

Pet peeve? Hm, let's see.... oh, I've got to go with the Kira-beating-people-up things. I love her, I really do, but come on, I don't see her kicking Damar's arse like that, sorry. Not without getting a black eye herself, but that wouldn't do. After all, she's a woman, and it would be sexist. So, beating up a bloke is fine, then. Hm.

Political correctness gone mad, as the Doctor would say. Or something to that effect.

Don't worry, later the characters, very late in fact 7th season, start questining the whole Klingon Honor thing, espechally worf and dax

That's not how I understood it. Actually Worf brought the Klingon society back to its "honorable path", because of Gowron's dishonorable actions.

She *did* get stabbed in the back in Way of the Warrior.

I noticed that she tends to get knocked out or incapacitated a lot, though. Ie, stabbed in the back or having a console blow up in her face, while the rest of our heroes are a-okay.

Anyway, there was a similar thread months ago. I said it then and I'll say it again: exposition at the beginning of an episode, especially when it's a two-parter. Kira did it, Sisko did it, Dax did it, and the writing really strained to make it seem natural (which it never accomplished).

~paraphrased:
"I can't believe you, Odo! You know damn well that we have to get into the brig, rescue Rom from execution, sabotage the emitter, save the minefield, and keep Dukat occupied while Sisko tries to get Klingon forces to help Starfleet so that they can get back to Bajor and prevent the Dominion from getting reinforcements through the wormhole! And that's what we're going to do!"

Actually, I do believe Odo knows all that, thank you very much.

My pet peeve about DS9 has been the same one forever - I really don't care for Odo/Kira.

I thought that 'ship was downright creepy. Borderline disgusting, even.

Don't care for it at all.

Agreed. When they first met, Odo was pretty much a Cardassian Deputy, and Kira his prime suspect in a crime. It would be a disgusting violation if this was allowed in a modern Police Department.

Well thats my point
It wasn't the honor thing that annoyed me about the Klingons, it was they did not practice what they preach, it was like President Bush and the word freedom
Ezri finally says what everyone was thinking and it causes Worf to act, that along with Siskos hint of "hes risking everything..he has to stop" ...hint hint kill him

Here we go:

1) Those damn caves (in all Trek) sheesh!
2) Holosuites
3) Throw away episodes (wishes were horses, move along (please just go)
4) Maritzza is stabbed at the end of Duet. No one bothers to save him even though they bring ppl back from the brink all the time. No one calls Bashir or another DR. To make matters worse, there's no blood or anything on the knife-guess Cardassians have opaque blood

5) All aliens breathe the same air mixture as humans? Oh plz. I'd love to see an alien croak b/c there's too much N in the air

6) *****(Not DS9 related)**** Feds are nearly at war w/the Romulans and did the ENT even fire a shot at them. Total and unadulterated BS

7) Of course I loathe the way DS9 ended, it was a good episode but there's too much goin' on and to let Sisko go to be w/the Prophets and Dukat turn into Bajoran Bogeyman was simple was a big waste

8) The Coup de gras, the biggest pet peeve w/DS9 was the final arc Gul DuPahBajoranFarmer and Kai Winn, the firecaves, that dumbass book, and the whole bunch of baloney that occupied some of the best episodes of DS9.
The give and take between Weyoun and Damar could have been more if we hadn't been given this tripe. Whew, I feel bettah now.

I don't have very many pet peeves about the show. I thought DS9 was pretty solid from start to finish.
There are only a small handful of episodes that bugged me:
The episode where Worf and Dax are on Risa and he is a complete douchewad the entire time, the episode where Quark dresses up as a female and I think they did one too many Mirror Universe stories.

pet peeves:
-most of the Ferengi "comedy" episodes were unfunny
-the romance of the week episodes like Melora, A Simple Investigation, Second Sight etc
-the Klingons in season four displacing the Dominion and to not very good effect to boot.
-season six aimlessly wondering through a bunch of filler--Times Orphan, Resurrection, Change of Heart, Profit and Lace, His Way, Who Mourns for Morn etc--while putting the more interesting Dominion storylines on old until the finale for the most part.
-Vic Fontaine was annoying
-LHWIWS, Meridian, Fascination, The Muse, Looking for Par'Mach...

I can agree on this, especially since she couldn't mop the floor with a woman barely taller than her (see "Invasive Procedures"). If this were the case, they should have pitted her with more female opponents.

I also didn't like those Kira vs. Quark B-stories from episodes like "Shadowplay" and "Meridian". It's obvious Quark would never win and both episodes were very weak overall. I'm glad they stopped doing those after season 3.

I didn't care much for Odo and Kira. It's strange that she would quickly go for him after having only Bajoran lovers. They were better off as just friends.

I didn't really like the crap with Bashir being genetically enhanced. It's a real continuity problem considering what we've learned about him from earlier episodes. Many people say it was a good character addition, but I don't
