The Galaxy-class Odyssey being destroyed in "The Jem'hadar" with the writers saying that if it was Picard, he would've got "smoked" too. (See the DS9 Companion.)

Thus proving even the DS9 writers could be snarky jackasses.

All I know is that Picard swept in and rescued their "tough little ship."

And that's canon.

The writers said they wanted it to be a Galaxy class ship because of the Enterprise association, so when the dominion destroyed it, we'd take the new enemy seriously, and not dismiss them as all talk no action pussys like the Romulans

Odo's inability to properly mimic humanoids, esp when he can get everything else (including a working com badge, apparently) so perfectly. Of course, a line from one of the Founders explaining that it was a limit put on them on purpose to force them to be always different from solids, to facilitate their learning mission would have explained it.

Stock footage used to bother me too, but then I realized that it's pretty essential. Not every episode can have a giant FX budget. But I do agree with you that they could have come up with the $$$ to use new shots in the finale. Look at what TNG did!
