Question about Trip's death

I like Trip so don't condemn me!

This is probably the most ironic post I've ever seen. No, no condemning! Different strokes and all that.

I've never understood the general draw to Trip. Good character, not great character in my opinion. And frankly, I liked him best in season 1 when he was funny and competent. In season 4, they made him unfunny and incompetent -- bad combo to me.

That comes from another fandom in which I am in; but I like Trip! Thought death ironic since how they did it; I know most say it was a hologram death so doesn't count.

I have a general draw to the male engineers lol! For some reason kewlest job on ship! Of course always strange that Trip spent more time at times on bridge then engineering. I never seen so many sitting in captains chair and takeing control of ship that is the thing

Anyway I mean I like other characters on show also Reed being one; I always like seeing buddy buddy friendships; comes again from the fandom that I am in which is Stargate.

And sorry for strange statement so yes have a thing for the engineers of a starship.

I think it counts. I don't know if most believe it was a hologram, but I think many here wish it didn't happen.

I read lots of forums and fun to find an active one and hear those who have been in fandom from beginning.

It just seemed rushed on how they did his death it like they should have killed him the first time when he almost died but not sure how heroic that was so maybe thinking saving Archers life would be heroic way out; I mean I cry when I watch it but then when its a regular character I am an easy cry.

But would have been nice to have seen just someone from maco or reeds group show up at least.

I think it was because there were only two other characters that got significant development. Some people feel...strongly about Archer, and not everyone was particularly thrilled to see an overtly emotional Vulcan. Perhaps is Travis or Hoshi or Reed were more than glorified extras....who knows.

I liked him better overall in the first two seasons, but his single best scene is "The Forgotten" when he said that he envied Vulcans... that was some of the best ST acting ever

The Forgotten is one of my favorite eps because of the acting all around but yes when Trip finally breaks down; Connor does a wonderful job as well as Jolene aka Tpol who is there for him all through it. I really liked his scenes with Degra also; I kept hopeing he would get to say what he could to the man who made the weapon that killed his sister.

But agree I like that eps for the acting in it; several for that reason.

Yeah, Trip finally melting down over his sister's death was really moving. He had held most of it in since leaving Earth on the Expanse mission and it was nice that the writers had Trip react in a believable manner.

I would rather have seen less blubbering, maybe just an escaped tear a la Ben Browder in Farscape's Fractions. Blubber doesn't make it more real, silent shaking would have worked better for me since I was entertained that all Trip's big moments occur in the mess hall.

Well, for TREK it was realistic. TOS had few emotional breakdowns, and most of those were by Spock of all people.

I was referring to the acting choice---the scripting was fine.

the acting choice was fine for a character from the south ect..
it reminded me of some of my relatives and i wouldnt think less of them for blubbering.

and it is especially true of people who for a long time were holding it in for awhile because they thought they had to be strong for the rest of the family.
but then some anniversary important to the person who had passed or some thing that reminded the person of the one gone would trigger the grieving event.

especially if it really wasnt in public but in front of some one at least seen as a trusted friend.

some of the strongest men will cry mightly in a situation like that.

^ I'm from the South and I have yet to see a man blubber. Then again, I see a bunch of generalities for Southerners, that no one from the South thinks is correct.

I agree with Angie. Less is more, especially when showing pain. Connor's overacting in this case made him less sympathetic, especially since I felt pummeled with his sister's death -- something they didn't let me forget even for an episode. (Forgotten was a poor name. It's more like: Mentioned a Lot So You Can't Forget.)

The blubbering made me think Trip should grow a pair. And I like Trip.

I've got a number of guy friends here in Birmingham, AL that are criers. (or maybe I just attract dudes that wear their heart on their sleeve)

born and raised in tennessee.
visited a good part of the south and have friends and relatives scattered through the region.
the thing is he did this in a private situation which just means maybe you might not had to chance to witness something like this since a lot of men just not just men from the south would only drop their control in front a people they are very close to within certain circumstances.

have seen it and would never think the men who went through it should grow another pair of balls so to speak.

because as i noted above at other times these men were some of the most strong .

it isnt a generality but like pensive something i have seen .

^ Totally disagree. I feel like - as long as we're making generalizations about Southern men - that they have a stiff upper lip.

i think you are missing the point that pensive and i speaking from personal experience and not generalizations..
shrug,,,
just know what i have seen and what these men were like the rest of the time.
