Would enterprise have been better if it had a military consultant

Star Trek in general just seems to do alot of handwaving in regards to the details of how the federation and starfleet actually works.
That's because, ultimately, it's really not that important. The show isn't about the Federation or how Starfleet works.

That would have made a lot more sense if it had been written as an Army vs. Navy sort of thing.

For all we know, it was. "Military" has been a synonym for the ground Army until recent times, and might well be that in the future again.

It's not as if Archer ever objected to having heavily armed "infantrymen" aboard his ship. He had those in "Broken Bow" already. Only those were in Starfleet uniforms, making it all right...

a big problem was that the people in Enterprise were really more of the same sort of semi-perfect pod people that characterize TNG era trek except with a little bit rougher around the edges but not much. I was hoping that they would have had humans make more blunders and not be the preachy initiators of interspecies cooperation that leads to the federation that they turned out to be. That really should have been more the vulcans' thing than humans.

Archer should have been more of a rumble-tumble type guy perhaps a little more like no-nonsense captain Gideon of b5:Crusade. The sort of guy that a young kirk would want to emulate but never feel like he could live up to. Bakula is good at sensitive likeable guys, but not a bad-ass.

^ Agreed. :techman: If anything Archer should have been even more shoot-from-the-hip than Kirk. I can see how they would be cautious and stick to policy or fleet protocol instead of going off half-cocked when dealing with new alien races; but the crew really should have been a little more crusty. Especially Mayweather, I mean come on! The guy was a merchant rat and he acted like a 25 year old virgin! They shoulda given him an eyepatch and a bootknife and a general lack of respect for all the space virgins aboard.

The MACOs were basically the military of United Earth, from everything I've seen it seems they were subsumed into starfleet security after a while.
