A gimmick episode we would all like for season 5

or how about a bridgerton gimmick where the crew are on a planet where its like earth during the regency era and they encounter upper class families like the feathertons the bridgertons

or a stranger things gimmick where the crew are on a planet that is like earth during the 1980s and they encounter humanoids like eleven and aliens like vecna
No.

Maybe not a gimmick but I would like Hemmer to return somehow.

I still don't get why Hemmer was removed as a character.
I mean, I know why. The Obi-Wan mentor role, having his death push Uhura. But you'd think that would mean have him return somehow.
The actor from as early as the audition that this would happen. But still.....
Meh, I guess I just think it sucks he's gone.

Hasn't he returned as "force ghost" once or twice?

We saw a hallucinatory Hemmer in S2 Lost in Translation, as well as recordings which were set during the first season in that same episode. The actor also played the Klingon General in Subspace Rhapsody.

Am I the only person who doesn't see 'gimmick' episodes as being different to any other kind of episode?

A gimmick is essentially a hook for a story. That can be a courtroom procedural (The Measure of a Man) or a musical (Subspace Rhapsody).

I suppose folks are using gimmick here to mean 'silly', but honestly I don't even think episodes like Subspace Rhapsody are silly. There was enough dramatic meat in said episode to equal more 'serious' ones.

Most of SNW's "gimmick episodes" are really rooted in Nineties television.

What Would Be Interesting, But Won't Happen: One of Babylon 5's best such outings involved the crew being resurrected as a holo-simulation for propaganda purposes by a civilization far in the future. SNW's take on that concept would be interesting to see, but I doubt they would have gone there. By Season 4 they had committed hard to Year One, and the idea wouldn't fit.

What Will Happen & Will Suck & I Don't Want to Contemplate the How: La'An almost certainly will be erased from memory and/or history at some point, just like Discovery or Ortegas' breakthrough with the Gorn. I'm counting on it at this point, much as I find the idea disagreeable.

What Will Very Likely Happen:
Another comedic outing for Pike. SNW has very little to say about or do with Pike beyond demanding that he Accept His Fate (somewhat superfluously, since he already covered that ground in DISCO, but it is what it is) and keep the big chair warm for Kirk. Keeping Anson Mount interested seems to have mostly meant letting him either play against type or play from the margins. So there will, almost for certain, be another comedic Pike-Playing-Against-Type outing: my money is on another trope borrowed from Buffy, such as the Halloween Episode Where Everyone Becomes Their Cosplays.

A final Spock-T'Pring Hijinks Episode. Of some kind. A wild guess is that they might have reached back to Old-Timey Trek for this one and might send them both back to pre-Logic Vulcan on some flimsy excuse; at any rate, what's liable to happen is that they will rediscover their commitment to logic and also discover that they don't really care for each other in order to set the stage for a remake of Amok Time that is now never going to happen.

What I Really Hope Hasn't Happened:
They may have tried to find some way to work in an "A Piece of the Action" prequel, although I really hope not, as I can't see any particularly graceful way for that to happen.

They may also try to reprise the TNG finale in some form. If they do prove to have tried that... it probably isn't great.

I guess we'll see.

Yep.

I think star trek has always been able to tell many different stories and thus can incorporate different genres. It always has and that's part of its appeal.

I think SNW has been a bit literal at times in showcasing how versatile star trek storytelling can be and that there 'is an episode there for everyone' but ultimately, if it's a good episode and delivers on the characters, I really don't mind. I've enjoyed virtually all of the 'genre'/'gimmick' episodes and while I may have questioned some ideas in the writer's room, I think they've mostly landed and generally applaud shows that take risks even if they don't land.

No offense, but it's a pass from me.
I'd have to agree with Tosk on that.

Fortunately, given that it's a "story idea" that the OP posted, in detail, in a public forum, I think we can safely say that unless it's already been shot, and can be documented as having seen the inside of a soundstage sometime prior to October 19th, it's something we're never going to see. I, for one, find that a relief.
