Spoilers Lanterns discussion thread

"I'm done with these weird ass people."

Damn, everyone on this show is all screwed up in the head. Well, except for Kerry, aside from the fact that she sticks around to deal with all of them. Like FPAlpha said, everyone is trying to manipulate everyone (add to the list: Bernadette manipulating John...for his own sake!) and it's a real joy watching it all play out.
A whole bunch of the theories from the past week are right out the window and I'm sure whole new slew of them will take their place.

Kerry is probably more fucked up than we know. You don't live in Gotham and come out normal.

This was the best episode of the season. It really shows once again the strength of the how is Hal and Jon's conflicted relationship with each other. I am more convinced now that Laura Linney is the real villain. She is manipulating Stewart and think it's because she is afraid of what Jordan might do. He might be a asshole but they guy also see's through a lot of peoples bullshit.

As for the crash I think he wanted to use Stewart as bait to get the Man Hunter to come out of hiding after faking her death. She saved the rich guys life when he had cancer. She has feelings for Stewart so she will want to come and save his life.

I don't know what to say about the show, I just haven't enjoyed it that much so far. This week's episode was the same, so maybe it's just not for me. I think I'm going to wait until it's over and I find another show on the service that I'm willing to subscribe for, and I'll give it another shot at that point.

The Guardian Lady knowing about Hal meeting with Sinestro in prison made me shift from my thinking the Guardian Lady was the Manhunter though.

I guess it is possible the Manhunter has some connections or even followed Hal off-world, but considering they seem to be hiding on Earth that would seem a bit much.
This is not information from Sinestro.

"I know a secret way of identifying man hunters!" (fade to black)

Sinestro could have said anything, that may even be the truth.

"Manhunters can't do junk. They think it's gross."
Maybe they will go with Manhunters have a biological/psychological imperative to breed and are unable to adapt a form of a species that is not able to give birth itself.

Hal's arrogance is so much fun to watch. He is just so "over it" all and so totally out of f***ks to give.

I'm also enjoying the banter between him and John more and more, as they develop some understanding and tolerance for one another, and just as this is happening, John goes and holds out a vital bit of information about the possible identity of the Manhunter. He even continues to withhold that info after Zoe's apparent death. That pissed Hal off and took his trust level for John back down a few notches.

It seems the writers are making it clear that John has skills better suited for a Lantern than Hal does, thus the sophisticated digging machine. But Hal's instincts are undefeated. His figuring out that "Hammond" wasn't really Hammond and using that hunch to force him to stop his attack on John's parents, was something I kinda couldn't see John doing, though maybe what I mean is that he would have saved his parents in a different way.

And Macon, WTF? If he is such a tough guy, why is he unable to do anything to the guy who is slamming his wife except lob those weak ass little veiled barbs, (I mean, assuming they actually have a anything like a normal marriage)? He seems really insecure and in need of being seen as "manly" in a really childish way.

Can't wait to see what Zoe's current status is. Also, How's Hal going to explain another attempt to "kill" John, but this time without giving John the ring. But what am I saying, Hal will likely just look John in the eye and tell him that it was just another "test."

Another solid episode.

Macon and Zoe are on the companion podcast for the episode:

Wow, lots of story movement in this one.
I'm wondering if everybody in Rushville knows about the Manhunter, because Macon was talking about it protecting them and that it's the reason nobody gets sick or anything makes me think everyone knows about it. And I do think it really is Zoe. She's been one of my top suspects for a while now.
I hadn't expected the Hector Hammond name to show up, and him being a fake out was fun little twist.
I can kind of relate to John's "that's why I'm vegan" line. I was a little surprised when we found out he really is vegan, when Hal first mentioned that, I thought it was just him screwing with people.
The relationship they're building up with John and Hal is a lot of fun, and I'm going to miss once we reach the point where Hal dies.
So I have a new theory about what is going on with Laura Linney's character. I do think she really is one of The Guardians, but I think she's gone bad and is actually working with Sinestro. So I think everything with the Manhunter is legit, but there's an extra layer of it, with her manipulating things with John and setting all of it up so they can get rid of Hal. I think the whole thing has been a long con by her and Sinestro to get Hal out of the way either for revenge for him taking down Sinestro, or as part of some kind of a bigger plot involving Zoe. I think there's a lot of stuff, like with the ring, and what she seems to know about Hal that could only happen if she really is a Guardian, but she's definitely manipulating the situation and has her own agenda that involves getting rid of Hal, but I think that's all just her, not all of the Guardians.

Here's a thought; in the comics, John became the permanent Green Lantern when Hal gave up the ring. Guy Gardner became permanent Green Lantern because the Guardians split into different factions, with one choosing Guy as a competing Green Lantern for 2814.

Maybe the show will actually stick to these ideas? Maybe the Laura Linney Guardian is presenting the Guardians as more unified than they actually are. Maybe Hal will eventually choose to leave the ring behind for John. And maybe, Guy is chosen as a competing Lantern to John.

Of course, we saw when John found Hal's body, he checked his finger. We assume that he was checking for the ring, but that might end up being a misdirect.

Both good ideas. Definitely something else is going on. I don't think Stewart is a Lantern in the present. Did we see him with a ring?

One thing about this episode. Surely Hal, and John for that matter, can use the ring even when it is not on one of their fingers. We've already seen John doing that this season. They were never really in danger around Macon, just trying to get info.

Yeah, that was a bad move from John just as he was forming a better connection to Hal. I don't know though if Hal felt the same way or was just playing him because the plan is still to replace Hal with John and John makes no attempt to hide that he's gunning for Hal's job, no matter that he did a few things to help the investigation and that he didn't take the instant chance to replace Hal once he had the ring on.

It seems the writers are making it clear that John has skills better suited for a Lantern than Hal does, thus the sophisticated digging machine. But Hal's instincts are undefeated.

We all have different skill sets and strengths. John is very methodical and precise while Hal is the guts and just do it type that comes from years of experience and being trained by the best. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, in fact their strengths are complimenting each other very well and it's a shame the Lanterns don't usually work in teams but alone.

Because he doesn't care about her romantically. He doesn't strike me as the type who forms deep emotional bonds, he's more the type who has employees and people he controls. So to him dropping those remarks and having John be defenseless is a way of saying that he could hurt or kill him at any moment but because he's so pwerful he chooses not to - it's all about the display of power for him. Once he has no more use of John or gets bored of his power plays he would come for him but i get a feeling this will get resolved another way if Zoe really is a Manhunter.

I'm wondering if everybody in Rushville knows about the Manhunter, because Macon was talking about it protecting them and that it's the reason nobody gets sick or anything makes me think everyone knows about it.

I doubt it. People might find it a bit strange but because these are good things they won't rock the boat. It is like this with any powerful person - as long as the people are happy and well taken care of they can do horrible shit anywhere else and get away with it.

I do think she really is one of The Guardians, but I think she's gone bad and is actually working with Sinestro.

Wasn't there an evil or traitor Guardian in the comics too, who helped found the Yellow Lanterns? I seem to have read that ages ago.

There was one called Scar. And maybe one or two others.
The Yellow Lanterns/Sinestro Corps were founded by Sinestro.

He didn't have a ring on in 2026, might have carried one in his pocket. It seems Guy Gardner is the official Green Lantern in 2025/2026 though i'm also wondering why he wore such a different uniform. I'm really looking forward to how this will be resolved AND how John Stewart will appear in the next Superman movie.

I don't think they can use ring powers without wearing it, effects always originate with a worn ring. This is why everybody was so surprised and impressed when John created the bird and was able to keep it active when he took off the ring. That seemed new and unexptected to Hal and the aliens, doesn't seem many Lanterns can do this.

Speaking of the aliens - what's everyones thoughts on them being Red Lanterns? I mean the hints are heavy and i can't yet say how much the show is using red herrings to misdirect or when we have seen it in full will discover all the hints strewn about in the episodes

Laura Linney is the dead Guardian? She faked her death with Sinestro's help? If this plot has anything to do with Manhunter, they are not on Earth?

Someone involved with the show, I can't remember if they were the showrunner or just one of the writers, said in an interview that he's not, and that why Guy is Green Lantern and he isn't will be a plot point later in the season.

They, or at least John, can maintain a construct after they take the ring off, but they need to have the ring on to create the construct.

I had wondered if the other Guardians knew what Linney was up to. But Hal was apparently informed of John by the other Guardians, so...

John is special.
John is basically a Guardian. Well according to an old series called Mosaic

In the comics, an enemy's move is often to cut off the limb to which the ring is attached. There's something I was thinking about Hal calling the ring to him at one point, but my memory is probably confusing that with something else.
