Giving STO Another Try

I personally prefer beam arrays and a few omni's at the back, that way i am always hitting with all weapons from the broadside, plus broadside allows me to stay out of range of things like tractor beams from the enemy ships, so i can stay are 8km away with superior pedal to the metal for that 30% plus all damage at full throttle, circling them like a shark in the water as they pop with beam overload dropping the odd 40 second gravity well to keep them controlled and in the one place.

I have one forward and one aft torpedo and the rest beams. As a carrier main on my Fed I need the extra targeting arcs. Dual beams have too narrow a targeting range for my preference.

I like to send out my Callisto fighters and Delta flyers and then bombard with my beams from the side.

I think the best pets i tired were those Klingon ghost looking ones, that do physical and fire damage, as you could just send them in and watch them rip apart advanced cubes with ease as they bypass shields.

Ah yes - the Lost Souls of Gre'thor. They are quite powerful if you have the room to store them. Despite its size, my Cnidarian Defender doesn't have any pet spots, so I couldn't use them any more. But they were my favorite when I could - I think when I drove the E-J around for a while. Been a long time.

So I made a space magic build with a Terran Somerville, unlocking the SAI and IGW traits from the main universe Somerville and the Andorian Chimesh. I still haven't finished optimising it yet and it is SO much more insanely powerful than my Crit-focused Tac Romulan (over 40% Crit chance and over 200% Crit Severity) that it's not even funny.

And that's without lockbox/Pay2Win shit.

Also, Eaglemoss could have had the common decency to put out a Somerville model before they went tits up. It's a REALLY nice design.

Yeah the JF is a insane powerful out the box ship, i use it to make my daily 9000 dil as it is basically a rando advanced tfo monster and makes that daily dil grind so much easier and quicker when ships are popping as they spawn. ha

(And although i can do rando elites, I don't bother because 99 times out of 100 they fail because players don't understand that "optional" in advanced is fail in elites, so i just stick to advanced randos as that is guaranteed win). :-)

I tend to cut randos some slack for that because elite optionals are usually a VERY tight DPS and coordination check, and a PUG just isn't going to do it unless everyone is specc'd to the nines - and sometimes not even then. Case in point, Operation Riposte Elite. My Rom Tac mentioned above? Still can't solo down one of the Klingon transports you have to stop ANY escaping in under 20 seconds, so if I'm the only ship nearby? TFO fail. Everyone else was busy at the other two checkpoints.

A question....
I'm working a strong set-up on my T-5 ship at the moment, and was curious as to what people prefer; beam array vs dual banks? I'm trying to get a decent balance between both but I'm not sure what I prefer yet.
Beam arrays + one Omni Beam. The extra Arc really helps maintain DPS.

If you're using phaser, grab the wide-arc DBB from the Disco rep and pair it with the Lorca's Custom Fire Controls console for the 2-piece set bonus. The console gives you +3% Critical Chance (more if upgraded) and the set bonus gives you a stacking bonus to Crit Severity for each Crit you land. The Dark Matter Quantum torpedo is decent for its effect alone, but may as well use it for the 3-piece.

But yeah, omnis (get two - there's the craftable one for each energy type at Beams R&D 15 plus either mission or rep ones - phaser can be had from the Beyond the Nexus mission) in rear arc even if you mainly broadside so they can still fire on approach and hit fore targets with FAW.

So, here's a dumb questions.... I don't think I've ever seen a omni beam pop up. Keep in mind, I only recently joined a fleet....

Omni-directional beam arrays can be crafted at some point, but some can be a reputation project. It could also be worth checking the exchange if you have enough energy credits.

Thanks, I'll check that out! Still learning so much even though I've been playing it for fun for the last.... 8 or 10 years. I never deep dived like this. It's amazing.

It look me about 5 years to figure out that you can hold down circle on PlayStation to skip a scene.:D

I'm still learning about this game as I go.

So I bit the bullet and got an omni from the exchange. Also decided it was time to use some Fleet credits and got some better weapons at the Fleet Station.
The only two big issues now are gaining a T6 ship and R&D'ing a lot more to get weapons higher than Mk XII.
I know I could buy Zen and go for a T6, but the concept of spending money on non-physical items feels weird. Than again, it would definitely make things easier. 50 euro's gets me enough zen for more bridge officers slots and inventory slots, so it might be worth it.

Vanity stuff i have no interest in, but that 25,000 dil reward for 14 days then another week of increasing daily dil rewards is where it is at for me, as it will get my toon up to or near that 250,000 dil mark, then get that up on the exchange for 500 zen. :)

"A question?"

Something concerning the Guardian of Time happening on the 8th September.
Well the next episode is more than likely a remake of The City on the Edge of Never and Past Imperfect, which involves the Guardian.

And announcing the future of STO probably means a new roadmap, because the current one ends in September.
