Giving STO Another Try

I don't suppose they have hinted at an additional bundle exclusive ship?

There's usually something.
The trailer releases Tuesday, so I'm guessing full reveal tomorrow, with trailer, release and Dev stream on Tuesday.

^^Maybe it will be that big Romulan ship from the first movie.
Unless plans have changed, that's probably the next lockbox ship after the bundle.

The latest Roadmap says there's a Kelvin Timeline Romulan ship coming to the infinity lock box in August.

Mentioned, but not shown in the Blog, the red 'Excelsior' hull material is available

There's also a rollbar variant for the Armstrong from Into Darkness that is bit more curved

And the Aldrin without the third nacelle

Since they share a frame, I wish they would replace the Parliament Class ship you see in the Wolf 359 TFO with the Aldrin Class.

The Parliament just doesn't look right there.

Although barely visible, the rollbars were changed to these curvy ones in Into Darkness.

How big are the ships? The Eaglemoss mags used the horribly wrong EAS size guesstimates, making them akin to the TOS Enterprise.

Oh they're big, looking at 500 to 600 metres each if the ships they can kitbash are anything to go by.

Just jumping in to say for the guy who is going through sto after a bit and having a rough go https://sites.google.com/view/stobetter/new-f2p
This should help with some of the stuff

Also if you keep on with sto throughout the year and complete the year long campaign you will get a 100% discount (but not from the new section) teir 6 ship and a promo choice box. Also if you need a max level fleet to join The Forgotten is allways open ( I think I am spelling correctly its late) also according to people online devs crooked with the kelvin bundle so there is that.

One last thing, if you want basically all the hero ships in one bundle invest in the 10th legendary bundle when it comes back and is on sale..

I guess it's because the Vancouver's registry does make it a reasonable supposition for Parliament class ships to have been in service at the time.

I actually quite like the Dartmouth, Aldrin and Leibniz classes. They've done a better job at distinguishing them from the inspiration this time around. A lot of alternative era equivalencies look way too similar for my taste like almost identical.

Quick question....
I've got 4 weapon slots forward and 4 aft. I always go 2 beam and 2 torpedo both sides, feels like the best setup. What are you guys doing?

Is this for the T5 Galaxy refit? What you're doing seems fine to me.

Usually I'd have 3 beams and one torpedo both sides, and I'd have "Torpedo: Spread" in the tactical console to make up for only having one aft and fore torpedo.

It sometimes depends on the ship, for example, my Terran Adamant is all cannons and one forward torpedo.

I've seen some people experimenting with torpedo boats, that is, torpedo-only builds. I'm thinking of giving that a try one day.

6 beams arrays, 1 torp, all the same weapon type, but set pieces from the reputation rewards, so the 3 piece set from the discovery rep, so Black matter torp, dual phaser beam bank and console from this set will increase your crit chance and crit damage nicely, then you have the Terren phaser array from the terran rep which can crit damage up to 200%, then you got the omni phaser beam for aft and its console to boost phaser weapons damage from the gamma rep, and that is just for starters. lol

But until you get rep rep system open the missions rewards will have all you need to carry you onwards.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I might experiment with more beams and less torpedoes. I can see how that might work.
An all torpedo boat seems like it would take too long to do a lot of damage, so you'd have to really have a strong hull/shield set up. But when that works, I can see it taking down ships real fast.

Basic STO Build strategy:

Pick one Beam/Cannon energy type (Phaser, Disruptor, etc.) and only slot those and use console that specifically enhance the type you selected.

Also, more than one Torp Launcher is a waste - replace your 2nd one with a Beam/Cannon and also put that Torp Launcher in the Front and DON'T set it to auto fire. Fire it manually when your target's shields are low/down.

The first part I knew, the second is new to me. Thanks for that tip!

I do know this.... As much as getting the Tier 5 Cruiser and adding better weapons and consoles to it, and other gear, many missions that have the standard 'fight three waves of ships' with the last being a dreadnought or supercruiser, I fail to beat that final ship. Maybe it's my tactics, I tried what Noname Given and others suggested, more beams/less torpedos. But it makes only a little difference. In the end, the fact that my bridge officer's Commander traits are unavailable because of the limitations with the officer stations and their ranks on a Tier 5, a Tier 6 really is the only option now I think.
