2026 Novel Releases

Re: Echoes in Eternity —
Some members of this community have expressed mild confusion re: who’s being referenced in the vague first paragraph of this book’s summary. I am here to clear up that confusion.

The first two (the child mourning her mother & the “scion of privilege”) are new characters created for this tale. The “young Starfleet officer” is Kirk (but only in the prologue, which refers to his taking command of Enterprise).

Today I'm wondering if there's a connection, considering two out of the three most recent TOS novels have Eternity in their title.

Absolutely a coincidence. There was no coordination between us authors on this.

Lost to Eternity wasn't even my original title. It was something I came up with when my intended title, Immortal Longings, was shot down because another SFF author beat me to it, just before my book was coming out.

Update: Just saw Dave's post. Funny thing, he was quoting Marcus Aurelius, whereas I was originally quoting Cleopatra, via Shakespeare: "I have immortal longings in me."

Trek authors and their classical references . . . . :)

Just a coincidence. I didn't know the title of Greg’s book when I started working on Echoes…, whose title was inspired by the famous quotation of Marcus Aurelius, “What we do in life echoes in eternity.”

IIRC, that quotation is often misattributed to Marcus Aurelius, but originated in the movie Gladiator.

Marcus's sentiments in his Meditations were closer to @Greg Cox's final title:

Every thing material shall soon vanish, and be swallowed up in the matter of the whole. Every active principle shall soon be resumed into the intelligence and cause of the whole. And the memory of every thing shall soon be buried in eternity.
