And then you have Hoekstra feigning ignorance and doubling down on the rhetoric and failing to do his job properly as an Ambassador, which in essence is like throwing new logs onto a fire rather than putting the fire out.

There is a school of thought that says Hoekstra is doing exactly the job that he was sent here to do, which was to stoke those fires. To his boss, it's a feature, not a bug.

The saying says to "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". The problem is that this administration has an overabundance of both, so you are never quite sure which one is driving things.

^Yes, that exactly! And yes, I've heard many comments along those lines, to which I say, well, what exactly did you expect to happen?

And sadly you're right, hence why they'll never learn.

So, after a lot of backtalk, Hoekstra seemingly approves of something Carney has said calling it a positive message after meeting with an economic speech in New York. Hoekstra even shared the speech, saying it was worth repeating.

Carney essentially saId:
“Let’s be absolutely clear. Canada strong will help make America great again,” Carney said while speaking at the Economic Club of New York.

Kind of makes me laugh in a way because it's almost as if Hoekstra perked up at "make America great again", as if certain key words were triggered, and as if nothing else Canada has done has mattered until those words were uttered. Well, let's see how long the affection lasts. I think we're past the point of hoping he starts to see things in a different light. Personally, I think it's a brilliant move on the part of Carney, as it shows that we're all interconnected, and that if we choose our own paths, it doesn't have to mean that the U.S takes it personally. It makes us stronger and it makes them stronger.

Hoekstra said:
Hours after Carney’s speech, Hoekstra shared a video of Carney’s speech, calling it a “positive message.”

“PM Carney said something worth repeating today: “A Canada strong will help make America great again.” I think a lot of Americans can get behind that kind of positive message,” Hoekstra said in a social media post.

I don't think it means anything other than using similar language that the American administration will understand, and if that's what it takes for us to find common ground on, that Canada pursuing its own path will make both of us stronger in the end, then I think it's sensible. I think it's a step in the right direction.

i do not think the montreal canadians will make it to the stanley cup finals
Not unless they can score 6 unanswered goals in the third period, no. And even then it would take an epic collapse by Carolina in the remaining games of the series.

Sadly for the Habs, they started tonight down 3-1 in games against Carolina, not the Leafs. With the Leafs, everyone has a chance down 3 games to 1. 😝😂

lol lol the canadians lost

which brings me to say this is why the nhl should have had the same amount of canadian nhl teams as there are in the us of a

Kind of hard to do when we have lower population numbers and not nearly as many big cities for them to be hosted in.

remember shitfit of Toronto when the idea was floated for a second NHL team.

didn't go down well with the leafs (or should I say MLSE).

hell they barely tolerate having the Senators in the same province.

I mean, maybe they should. There could always be a Canadian Hockey League and an American League both part of the same association, similar to how the Eastern and Western league divisions end up facing off against each other.

But that still comes back to the question of which cities could host teams. Maybe each Province's capital cities. It's a complex issue.

then the NHL would make a fuckton of money selling the franchises and the franchieses would then expect the tax payers to foot the bill for building a new arena for team.

and it would be more over paid sports players - just what the country needs.

In the aggregate, as long as owners make that kind of money in any sport, players are not overpaid (no one bought tickets to a Yankees game because they wanted to see Steinbrenner “work” in his office). Players don’t put guns to anyone’s head to get paid.

(Are sport salaries too high in the abstract? Another discussion entirely.)

At most, Canada could support two other teams in the NHL. An extra one in Toronto and one in Quebec City. But neither would be a sure thing.

In the end, the Canadian Cup drought will end—probably in the next 5-7 years. (Won’t be the Leafs, though. :p ). Either McDavid will win one with Edmonton (though the window is beginning to close) or the Habs will win one 4-6 years from now, possibly earlier (they are still on the rise, barring catastrophe).
