Would you like to see a cardassian episode?

Cardassians have been shown and mentioned in Enterprise but official contact hasn´t beeen made with them as far as we know. Don´t you think it would be good to see something along that? It could be interesting to show their society before millitary coup and it wouldn´t be so controversial ike Ferengi and Borg.

I preferred seeing the expansion of our knowledge about species that got very little attention in "future" Trek: the Andorians and the Tellarites were great choices.

I didn't mind the Borg or Ferengi episodes (because there were only one of each) but I would really have hated to see Enterprise turned into nothing more than an inexplicable and totally unnecessary "exploration" of aliens from TNG, DS9 and VOY. It was bad enough that we were being pummeled by Klingons in the first two seasons (am I the only one who got sick to death of the Klingons by the end of DS9? They're bloodwine chugalugging warriors... we get it. It's a big galaxy. Can we have someone else now?)

Thing is, a good part of what people were looking eagerly forward to Enterprise for was a break from the 24th Century Filler -- enough with the holodecks, enough with the spacetime anomalies, enough with the wacky fun clown DNA, enough with the Borg, enough with the Ferengi, enough with the Klingons. The Cardassians are yet another of those really thoroughly 24th Century species. You'd need a really solid idea for what to do with them to make them appealing again after seven solid years of that stuff over on Deep Space Nine and extra material on The Next Generation and Voyager.

I don't know when Cardassian First Contact was canonically established (if in fact it was), but in the event that it was established to postdate Enterprise, then running such a ``sneak-peek'' first contact would demand a really brilliantly sharp reason for this not to be First Contact. The Borg they mostly got away with, although it required a stroke of luck which rang false to much of the audience. The Ferengi sneak-peek was insulting and target of deserved scorn. Would you want to take the risk that they come up with a reason for having only a sneak-peek that's credible to the needs of the story and believable to the audience?

I believe that it certainly could have worked to have the Cardassians appear because, as far as I remember, it's never been established onscreen when the first contact between the Federation and the Cardassian Union took place. However, they got a lot of exposure in DSN, and what would've been the compelling reason to have them on ENT?

Also, I personally believe the Federation didn't have contact with the Cardassians till the 24th century, around the time Picard was captain of the Stargazer. I also happen to think Betazed didn't become part of the Federation till the 24th century, but that's another topic.

It worked to have the Andorians and, to a lesser extent, the Tellarites appear because we only had glimpses of them in all the other series and movies. So for all intents and purposes, they were largely unknown to the ST audience, making them ripe for exploration.

From what I´ve heard, Organians were making experiment on Enterprse crew by infecting them with virus and they told our heroes that they were already doing this stuff with Klingons and Cardassians (both of these reces killed infected ones).

Yep, if there was a Cardassian living on Vulcan in the 22nd Century then there was some awareness of them.

EXACTLY! Look, the Federation/Star Fleet encountered other people as time went on. Leave evrything as it it. This the main thing I hatd about Enterprise anyway. That bastard Berman screwed up the TOS continuity. There was so much they could have done with Enterprise...

No, because chances are, they would have nearly destroyed the Enterprise, kidnap Archer, have their vessel scanned, and maybe take out another Earth vessel or two, and somehow no evidence survives and Archer never learns their name; not to mention the sensor logs are "accidentally" deleted.

I'd have liked to see them in passing, but not as the focus of an episode. If there was knowledge of them, there's no reason they can't be shown, but as others have said, we saw enough of them in the 24th century.

I loved Cardassians, but they had no logical place in 22nd century canon and lore aside from a random mention from another race/species that had already encountered them("Observer Effect")at some point in the past. Earth is nowhere close to reaching Cardassian or Bajoran space at this stage with its slower ships so I'm not upset in the least none ever showed up. The Ferengi were pushing things as it was.
