This is the Star Trek way. Star Trek fans got so used to being social pariahs that the circling of the wagons behavior seems almost instinctual. To borrow from TOS, You are not of The Body.Snobbery is not the way forward.

Wish someone had told Season 1, 2 and 3 Captain Picard that.Snobbery is not the way forward.

Hey! The cartoon crossover was the best part of SNW season 2! Well, except for the very Star Trek episode with the time travel. And the very serious episode about Dr M'Benga.
But yeah, Star Trek is currently aiming younger than it ever has in order to get new viewers, while throwing the occasional bone to the existing audience to keep them turning up. But a lot of the existing Trek audience started watching the more mature shows as kids and loved them. They don't need to twist Trek into something unrecognisable just to pull in people who aren't interested, when I'm sure there are still young sci-fi fans in the world.
Also I haven't seen that puppet episode yet, but it can fuck off. Is there a puppet episode of For All Mankind? Maybe I should be checking that out.
Yeah I know right the current Trek producers... pretentious as all hell....Snobbery is not the way forward.
Exactly. Clever Trek is rare today.Nothing clever.
I would rather it be completely unthetered from the prime universe. A complete reboot.I wonder if we'll ever revisit the Kelvin timeline? If Star Trek is in need of a reboot, then perhaps following a period if rest, return to the Kelvin timeline, which is free of much of the backstory and continuity of the original timeline. No worries about stepping on canon, and an opportunity to introduce new takes on characters and lore.
Is the Kelvin timeline not already sort of that?I would rather it be completely unthetered from the prime universe. A complete reboot.
No. Because it's a branch off from the prime universe that Nero and TOS Spock created. A complete reboot they would not have to worry about what characters they would use and the general backstory etc. They would not even have to use the Enterprise. Just keep the basic premise of Starfleet/Federation etc. and go from there. Is the Kelvin timeline not already sort of that?
I get what you're saying, though part of me feels the Kelvin timeline is there, and set up to carry on in a way both new and familiar. It provides a connection that a lot of fans would value, whilst keeping open the door to a lot of new interpretations.I would rather it be completely unthetered from the prime universe. A complete reboot.
No. Because it's a branch off from the prime universe that Nero and TOS Spock created. A complete reboot they would not have to worry about what characters they would use and the general backstory etc. They would not even have to sue the Enterprise. Just keep the basic premise of Starfleet/Federation etc. and go from there.
The Borg assimilated it right out of himWish someone had told Season 1, 2 and 3 Captain Picard that.![]()
Imagine being marginally LESS of a self-righteous ass AFTER you get turned into a Borg. The Borg assimilated it right out of him

Exactly. Clever Trek is rare today.
Yeah...see what I did there??Hmm… I don’t think Trek being clever or not was what I was discussing. Hmmm….
Does it make sense to aim for Star Trek to be "more mature?"
There's only been one Game of Thrones in the history of television, and it fell apart as soon as it wasn't closely following material written by a master of character logic.
TMP was rated G (yes, with an asterisk and all), but at the same time is the most mature Star Trek film...I don't think it needs to be Game of Thrones level. Not at all. But more mature than it's been lately, yes. It doesn't need to be all excessive swearing, borderline pornographic sex, graphic violence, or anything like that. It just needs to not feel like it's aimed at kids and adults who think like kids, and I feel like SFA and SNW are. I prefer something that doesn't feel like it's essentially a live-action cartoon. "Lessons", "The Pegasus", "Rejoined", "Rules of Engagement", episodes like that. Maybe a little bit passed that. Mad Men and, yes, For All Mankind are around the level I'm thinking of. That's what I'd prefer.
