i almost wish the Tarantino Trek had happened. It absoutely WOULD have generated buzz , and given Trek another moment of mainstream exposure it hasn't really experienced since 2009

Please no. Tarantino is all wrong for Trek and no buzz is worth his sweat word laden Shatner inspired fest.
He tends to be a bit too dark for Trek.
Yeah, all one has to do is look at Rebel Moon and his take on what Star Wars would have been like.

There are those who feel Tarantino would have made the film all about him or somehow inserted himself into Star Trek. But that's just silly!

There are multiple Howards. The Lucasfilm-produced version isn't yet in the Disney fold.
Never saw the Lucasfilm version (although I read about it in Starlog). Then again, I never actually read any of the comic books, either. I just saw them on racks, and I remember thinking (not even into my teens) that the character design looked like something that would induce conniptions at Disney.
Almost as bad a mismatch as Snyder.

Going by the Rebel Moon Part One template, they've already made a Star Trek where they introduce supporting characters and then give them nothing to do other than stand in the background. It was called Enterprise.

Tarentino's been dark, too; I'm not buying that about Snyder. And Star Trek's been in a dark place before.

That's not very "dark", even for Star Trek.
There have been dark episodes of a Star Trek show, namely two of them (IIRC) on Deep Space Nine (In The Pale Moonlight and Inter Arma Silent Leges)-Snyder can do a movie, too (and I don't think it will be dark as people think it will be.)
