Seriously though, I wish we got that weird Tarantino movie. It would have reached outside the Trekkie bubble and at the very very least, given us some weird close-ups of Zoe Saldana's feet to live in fandom infamy forever.

Agreed. I saw Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on the big screen a couple weeks back, and I was once again dazzled by what an amazing filmmaker Tarantino is. The alternative history I'm wondering about is the alternate timeline where we get Kevin Feige in charge of Trek movies.
The man is a self-professed huge, huge Trekkie. He actually wasn't interested in comic books until he started working for Marvel, and went and read the backcatalogue. The signatures of all the actors at the end of Endgame was explicitly meant as a callback to TUC.
Maybe his feuding with Ike Perlmutter results in Disney sidelining him rather than Perlmutter. So he bops off to CBS/Paramount right around when they are planning Discovery.

I had no problem with him wanting to make a Star Trek movie, but I didn't like his put-down of the Kelvinverse.
I loved Man of Steel and all of the other Snyderverse movies; I think that he'd be a great fit for Star Trek.
