Good luck finding anyone with the charm and charisma of James Garner.NBC has ordered a pilot for a remake of The Rockford Files. They attempted one years ago with Dermot Mulroney and Alan Tudyk but supposedly it was terrible and didn't get picked up.
Or the supporting cast, Noah Beery Jr., Joe Santos, Stuart Margolin, Gretchen Corbett ...Good luck finding anyone with the charm and charisma of James Garner.
Or a car that looks as good as his Firebird Esprit.Good luck finding anyone with the charm and charisma of James Garner.
Also who has an answering machine anymore? (unless they make it a period piece of course)

...and the world weary way about him.Good luck finding anyone with the charm and charisma of James Garner.
Half the reason the original worked, if at all, was because Hanks had a quality about him where you couldn't be sure that he wasn't even nuttier than what was going on around him. The actress in that clip doesn't have that. It might work with, say, Ally Wong or even Allison Brie, but the actress they chose just seemed too normal. It will suck. Some things can't be remade. That is because the original has a quality to it that is not easy to recapture and also weird things happening in the suburbs is not exactly a new concept at this point in storytelling.
