What class of ship was the hero ship of Star Trek Resurgence?

Was one of the ships in the final battle an excelsior class ship?

Was the warp reactor upside down? The engines were down so why were the pipes facing up?

It was a refit Centaur class, there's a prequel comic about her getting damaged and refit, iirc.

Pipes to warp engines go the wrong way in Lower Decks too, I always notice it:lol: probably because it was designed before the ship itself was finalised.

Not really, because engineering is in the pod between the nacelles, they should be horizontal!
the pod is not horizontal with the nacelles.

Centaur, it featured in an epiode of DS9 when it was chasing Sisko when he commandeered the Jem'Hadar ship (and didn't know it was him)

I elect to ignore the comic and go with the two-Centaur theory. There’s a smaller ship, scaled to the Miranda parts of the model, that we saw in DS9 (call it the Buckner-class), then the larger Centaur-class was a postwar design named for the ship seen in DS9, meant to burn off remaining Excelsior-I subassemblies, which includes the Resolute and the Centaurs seen in Prodigy.

Did Starfleet keep the fighter to reverse engineer it?

Only however much they could between Sisko salvaging it and them taking it on their secret mission; it crashed on a barren planet and sank to the bottom of the ocean after they did their attack.

The Resolute was definitely a Centaur variant, but it seemed to take visual cues from the USS Ares from Alex Peters' failed "Axanar" project, with the attached half-secondary hull underneath:

It's a really cool design by Sean Tourangeau. Unfortunate that it was associated with the Axanar project.

A TOS-era Stargazer from Picard's second season would have a similar design, but with an X-wing nacelle formation:
